The Mighty WAH!, the second best thing to come out of Liverpool/Merseyside after the Beatles.
Close between them, A Flock Of Seagulls and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.

My cousin and his associates have taken over the Barca Academy (https://barcaacademy.sg/) and the Sporting CP Soccer Academy (https://www.sportingsg.com/). The previous management at Sporting CP had a pitch at The Cage (Kallang) from 5 to 7 pm on Mondays, but due to consolidation, the pitch is not required by the Academy. My cousin informs me that the pitch is available at cost price. Anyone interested, please contact me.
Also, if you have or know of anyone who has kids interested in the Academy, arrange a trial!

I had a bit of time, so I have put all the final positions in the English pyramid up to level 10 in single spreadsheet. See the first sheet of the attached Excel document. Average home attendances above 250 are shown on the second sheet. An overview of the system can be found here. Attachments:2021-22 attendance.xlsx (48.72 KB)

Not sure where you guys are with this but I have played a 5v5 at Cage and few others I know have done it. Besides tiredness to play for 2 hours, the cost is definitely hire due to the ART test requirement and no place for latecomers as it disrupts the process.

Private facilities are gradually being added. However, from the manager at Premier Pitch @ Grandstand on 22 November 2021: He confirmed that the venue is not approved for 5-a-side. Raj previously tried 2 v 2 with 1 goalkeeper, ]url=https://giffas.proboards.com/thread/7450/saturday-26-june-2021]in June[/url]. Whatever your interest, state it by posting below. I do not plan to organise anything unless there is sufficient interest under present conditions, or the rules are relaxed sufficiently for us to we move some way back towards our normal regular games.

Several regulars have brought this to my attention: Slots need to be booked individually here:
I believe payment needs to be made upon booking. If anyone would like to propose a venue, date and time by posting below, and there is sufficient interest, I will assist in whatever way I can.

Belgium's men are now concurrently World, continental (EuroHockey) and Olympic champions. How often has that been achieved by any nation in any team sport?

The new manager at my condo has a Bengali father (from Calcutta) and a Singapore Chinese mother, his parents met in the 1970s while studying in England, but got divorced when he was young. He stayed with his father in Calcutta, his younger sister came with his mother to Singapore. He was in boarding school in India, and subsequently worked there. His father had a stroke recently, so he and his sister arranged for his father to be brought to Singapore. He was speaking to me last week. He is very excited by India's progress in hockey. He's not into cricket which is a relief. Anyway, India are now through to the men's semi-finals at the Olympics. Quite interesting, I hadn't realised that Belgium are current World and European Champions in hockey until I looked it. I really have lost touch! Looks like Belgium's progress in football has been outdone (but not overshadowed!) by its achievements in hockey. Interesting semi-final line up today - India v Belgium and Australia v Germany. Belgium's recent success in Hockey:

From the "Run out games" thread on this "Other OPSAGE" board: With the current Covid-19 restrictions, we are limited to 5 players on a pitch. The Saturday regulars tried 2 v 2 with 1 keeper on Saturday (26 June 2021). I'm not sure how it worked out, but that, or some variation, may be useful to just have a run out until our games get back to something resembling "normal". I'll do any of the following time slots at short notice, at Khalsa, at $10 per player (maximum 5 players): - 8 to 9 pm or 9 to 10 pm, on weeknights (Monday to Friday).
- 5 to 6 pm on Saturday or Sunday.
If anyone is interested, reply below, indicating the days, dates and/or times you are available. If I get 2 or 3 players for any slot, I'll try to get a few more to make 5.
And from the "OSPAGE & all-comers' game" discussion thread: .... If there is sufficient interest, I'll make available such games, or any other type of permissible game for which there is sufficient interest. If players feel stuck at home during the current Covid-19 restrictions, they are welcome to propose other projects, sports, activities, games or events on the "Other OPSAGE" board. I'll make a general thread available on that board for players to put forward ideas, discuss and/or indicate interest. .... I will use/recycle this thread, and have renamed it from "Phase 2 games" to "Other OPSAGE during Covid-19 restrictions". Post ideas, discussion, and indication of interest below.

I was having a chat with a regular, and this thread came up. Everything has been on hold due to the Covid-19 situation since early last year. Maybe the 15th anniversary of the FIFFA blog in late 2022 or early 2023? We can only hope that things are back to something resembling normal by then! In the meantime, I've renamed this thread from "GIFFA 10th Anniversary" to "FIFFA 15th Anniversary".

I have a hypothesis - across highly competitive international tournaments played over a month or so, like the World Cup or the Euros, teams that get through from a "group of death" hardly ever go on to win the tournament if at all.
It's almost like getting out of the group takes its toll, and in highly competitive tournaments, where the smallest margins can make all the difference in outcomes, the toll is enough to prevent the teams from going on to win the tournament.
Someone should do a detailed analysis. I'm not sufficiently interested in international football to do it myself.

From the "Coping with Covid-19 restrictions" thread: Quite fun with a modification we made - used small goalposts and played 3 v 2 and everytime a team scored the scorer would go over to the other team unless of course if the team that scored was the 2 man team then no switch. Amazed how unfit we have become after a few months of no football. Good way to get "match fit" in preparation for more relaxed measures, hopefully soon. PS. Water and short rest breaks every 20mins helps too! Good idea!

You'd hardly notice that Euro 2020 was currently going on. Not that I've been following it much, but here is how the 8 quarterfinalists finished in their groups: - Belgium (Group B winners)
- Italy (Group A winners)
- Switzerland (third ranked third placed team, from Group A)
- Spain (Group E runners up)
- Ukraine (fourth ranked third placed team, from Group C)
- England (Group D winners)
- Czech Republic (second ranked third placed team, from Group D)
- Denmark (Group B runners up)
The group winners who didn't make it through the round of 16 are Netherlands (Group C winners), Sweden (Group E winners) and France (Group F winners). Despite being the "group of death", with France (currently ranked second in the FIFA World Rankings), Portugal (currently ranked fifth in the FIFA World Rankings), and Germany (currently ranked twelfth), all of whom made it through to the round of 16 (Germany as runners up and Portugal and the first ranked third place team), plus Hungary, no team from Group F made it through to the quarterfinals.

Payment status ($15 per player):
1 Raj 2 Sushil (-$9) 3 Desmond 4 Aschkan 5 Stan D Man (-$15) 6 Gareth (paid by Damian) 7 Frederic Dov’ (-$3) 8 Alexis 9 Damian (including payment for Gareth) 10 Yaseen (-$15)
Players with no figures against their name have sufficient credit with me.
I will highlight the shortfall to those who have run out of credit (excluding those who pay game by game). As organiser, Raj should remind those who are short.

It is unclear when the current Covid-19 restrictions, limiting us to 5 players on the pitch, will end, so the Saturday guys have decided to resume playing, with 5 players on a pitch, and two pitches. Raj made the bookings with Premier Pitch @ Grandstand and requested on Thursday (24 June 2021) that I do the payments for them. I checked the pitch price with the management, and informed Raj that it works out to $15 per player. The games are so far removed from our regular games or challenge matches, I am creating the thread on the "Other OPSAGE" board. Raj messaged me about half an hour ago with the players, as follows: Payment information will follow below.
