There were no objections. Later, Mark T came in for Ilker, so the revised line ups were:
Whites: Mazz, Wayne, Stephen C, Alex F, David T, Rajiv, Mark T
Reds: Derian, Wilson, Kelvin H, Yitian, Jessen, Sean L, Benjamin K
After my comments last week, Reds started in a very relaxed fashion, and Whites took an early 4-0 lead. Reds went close with several long-range and speculative shots, but Whites looked in control. Three successive lapses by David T while in goal saw Reds pull back to 3-4. Perhaps he felt sorry for his friends. Apart from that, David had a good game in defence and midfield, so I shouldn't fault him too much.
From early on, Mazz, playing his first game with us, struggled with the shape of the game. As the game wore on, he struggled with the pace of the game as well. However, he was disinclined from spending an extended spell in goal. Nevertheless, Mazz managed two poacher's goals - on both occasions, the ball found him unmarked in front of goal, with the simple task of deflecting the ball into goal.
Reinvigorated by the three gift goals, Reds finished the stronger, finally winning 6-5. Both teams had chances in the last 20 minutes, but Reds defended well, and finished off the chances they created.
It was disappointing to lose in such circumstances. Given that new players sometimes take a while to adapt to our game, any regular would have been more effective than Mazz. Plus the three lapses that got Reds back into the game, ironically, from David.
