Babs SMSed about 8.20 pm to say that he was held up in a meeting and that he and Harmeet (a friend visiting from the UK) couldn't make it. We went ahead 6-a-side with:
Whites: Bobby, Edmund, Srini, Dave H, Alex F, John Simpson Reds: Amrish, Rajiv, John J, Niel L, Daniel T1, Robbie
Whites led 1-0 and 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4, before Reds pulled ahead 8-5. Everytime Whites pulled one back, Reds restored their 3 goal lead up to 11-8, before Reds pulled further ahead to 12-8. Whites pulled one back, but Reds grabbed the last goal to win 13-9.
It was Robbie's first game at Khalsa, and once he got into the game, his direct runs and shots on goal saw him score Reds first couple of goals, and another 3 over the course of the game. Reds adopted a more direct approach and it paid off, especially with the extra space of a 6-a-side, with Daniel T1 covering a lot of ground. John J grabbed a few as well. Even I grabbed a couple, and hit the intersection of the post and crossbar once. Niel L and Daniel T1 scored the rest.
Whites tried a passing game, but the final ball tended to run away from the player on the wet pitch. The passing needs to be very tight when the pitch at Khalsa is wet.
Good game, though Whites might be a bit disappointed not to have done better. On several occasions, Reds were over-committed in attack, and Whites had good chances to counter, but the passing out from defence broke down or was intercepted by Reds' defence, with me, Niel L and Daniel T1 taking turns as last man.
