.... To allow players to get to know each other better, even if they don't regularly play in the same games, I'm going to try a weekend WhatsApp group chat for anyone who is interested in chatting about the football on TV or other sporting action each weekend. I will put up a thread on the "OPSAGE" board each Wednesday for players to sign up for that weekend. I will start in the new year. .... .... ... will put up a thread for 18/19 January 2014. It may take a while to get going. Sign up below.

.... I still haven't gotten round to promoting the Weekend WhatsApp Group chat, and it still hasn't gotten going. For now, I will remove the date from the thread on the OPSAGE board, and just add a weekly reminder on that thread. .... Done. This post serves as the reminder for next weekend.

I've been too busy for this, and after the problems I had with WhatsApp between 8 and 12 March 2014, I'm looking at Viber. From the Chat board: .... ..., I tried using Viber. I sent out the following message to those who showed up as having Viber installed: Even amongst those who had Viber installed, a large proportion hadn't updated it. Viber doesn't have broadcasts the way WhatsApp does, but it's group chat appears more flexible. .... .... .... .... I need a service that allows me to message player's mobile phones directly without a user name or the cost of SMSes. I only know of WhatsApp and Viber. .... Viber may not be widespread enough for important things like asking around to fill places or for each game's post-poll group chat, but I may use it for more social group chats, like the one considered in this thread. And if by doing so, more players install Viber, at some stage, I may replace WhatsApp with Viber as my primary SMS alternative and mobile group chat platform. In the meantime, I have changed the name of this thread from "Weekend WhatsApp Group Chat" to "Social Group Chat".
