Thanks for trying. Guess it is the post-exam & holiday season for the children.
Next public holidays are also on Mondays: 26 Dec and 2 Jan. Any need to book in advance?
Responses could be lacklustre or good, depending on whether people are away for holidays, or are already back from holidays. 26 Dec may be a better alternative for those who are busy on 24 or 25 Dec.

The 9-a-side pitch at Khalsa is available on Monday evening. It's $220 for 2 hours, and available from 4 to 6 pm or 5 to 6 pm. I've asked them to let me have it for an hour, but they said they'll have to get back to me on that. Anyone interested in a 9, 10 or 11-a-side game on Monday?

Premier Pitch @ Turf City called and said the big pitch is now available between 1 and 5 pm on Monday. I guess the camp got cancelled, at least in the afternoon. I've booked a 4 to 5 pm slot, and I will switch the extra game over from the 9-a-side pitch at Khalsa from 5 to 6 pm (which only has four names down, Foo Cheong and friends, and from the above and the threads on Khalsa and Turf City, I know he prefers Turf City ).

Foo Cheong also sent me the following private message on 6 December 2011: I have switched the 4 to 5 pm booking at Turf City on Sunday, 25 December 2011, to Monday, 26 December 2011, 5 to 6 pm. January 2012 bookings are not available yet.

I did sign up for the holiday game on 26 Dec, but withdrew later partly because it did not look like it was going ahead. Up until 10.20pm Saturday night (24 Dec) there were only 4 who signed up.

As was the case with Christmas (falling on a Sunday), We didn't have a game on New Year's Day (also on a Sunday). Despite highlighting in the e-mail Update sent out earlier this afternoon that this game is available, no one is down for it yet. Too short notice I guess. Or perhaps people don't know how late they will be out for New Year's eve, so no one wants to commit to a game in the early evening on New Year's Day. There are players down for the game on 2 January 2012, even though the thread for that game was put up at about the same time last night as this thread. Anyway, like the game last Sunday (Christmas Day), this game is cancelled. Still a lot of places left for the game on Monday, 2 January 2012, which is also from 5 to 6 pm at Turf City. I expect it will fill up late, like the game last Monday, which was also from 5 to 6 pm at Turf City. Also like the previous week, the game on the Monday public holiday (2 January 2012) went ahead. The remaining public holidays for 2012: * Chinese New Year - Mon, 23 Jan & Tue, 24 Jan * Good Friday - Fri, 6 Apr * Labour Day - Tue, 1 May * Vesak Day - Sat, 5 May * National Day - Thu, 9 Aug * Hari Raya Puasa - Sun, 19 Aug. Mon 20, Aug will be a public holiday. * Hari Raya Haji - Fri, 26 Oct * Deepavali - Tue, 13 Nov * Christmas - Tue, 25 Dec For Chinese New Year, I won't bother having two slots on the Sunday (22 Jan). I won't have the public holiday Turf City game on the first day (Mon 23 Jan). For that day, I'll keep the usual booking at Kallang from 9 to 10 pm (instead of switching the Kallang game to Wednesday, as I did for the public holidays on 26 December 2011 and 2 January 2012). We can have the public holiday Turf City game on the second day of the Chinese New Year (Tue, 24 Jan). As the players for Turf City are largely separate from those for East Coast, I'll leave the East Coast game as it is. The schedule will be: * Saturday, 21 Jan, 5 to 6 pm, Turf City. * Sunday, 22 Jan, 5 to 6 pm, Turf City. * Monday, 23 Jan, 9 to 10 pm, Kallang. * Tuesday, 24 Jan, 5 to 6 pm, Turf City. * Tuesday, 24 Jan, 9 to 10 pm, East Coast. How many games actually go on will depend on how many players we get over the long weekend, with many having other commitments, or going away. For those who are interested, there is a pitch available from 9 to 11 am at St Wilfred's on 22 January 2012.

Those who aren't visiting relatives on Monday will probably be away for the long weekend. When we have an extra game at Turf City, it is largely those who play regularly on Saturday and Sunday playing an extra time. I can't imagine many of them wanting to play 3 times over the long weekend. As for the Monday, I assume there will also be Elvin's usual Monday game. If several regulars will also be playing that game, I doubt we'll have enough for an extra game on Monday.

The schedule will be: * Saturday, 21 Jan, 5 to 6 pm, Turf City. * Sunday, 22 Jan, 5 to 6 pm, Turf City. 4pm on Sunday may be more popular, as reunion dinners will be on Sunday.

Ok, I'll switch the Sunday game to 4 pm.
The women's game on Sunday will also be brought forward, to 5 pm.

I've committed to the Saturday game, so I will not be playing Sunday even if it is switched to 4pm. Better put in my excuse first.

Today is Chap Goh Mei, "a festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar year in the Chinese calendar, the last day of the lunisolar Chinese New Year celebration". It is also known as the "Lantern Festival" and for many, it is the Chinese equivalent of Valentine's Day. I understand that for some, it is a bigger thing than the Chinese New Year itself. Not a public holiday itself but over the years: .... I've noticed ... that numbers dip before Chap Goh Mei. ....

.... ... for many, [Chap Goh Mei] is the Chinese equivalent of Valentine's Day. .... Both games at East Coast. The guys who play at East Coast must be a romantic bunch. Apart from public holidays, other special occasions, such as Chap Goh Mei and Valentine's Day, or annual events such as the F1, can affect numbers and games. I've renamed this thread "Public holidays etcetera".

Rai SMSed me last night to ask if we can play from 9 to 11 pm at East Coast next Thursday (5 April 2012, eve of Good Friday). He envisaged playing the usual 7-a-side, but over 2 hours, with a break in the middle. He said he had about 5 or 6 players interested in playing 2 hours.
Unfortunately, 10 to 11 pm is not currently available, so we only have our usual 9 to 10 pm game. Sports Planet will inform me if the 10 to 11 pm slot becomes available. However, if it becomes available, I still need to know that there is sufficient interest in playing two hours on the eve of a public holiday. No point putting the game up for 2 hours, but then finding we are short of players because several don't want to play 2 hours.
As for Good Friday itself (6 April 2012), we can consider a game from 4 to 5 pm or 5 to 6 pm on a big pitch at Turf City.

We didn't manage a game on Good Friday. The next public holiday, Labour Day, is next Tuesday (1 May 2012). I'll schedule the Tuesday game at East Coast as usual. If anyone is interested in a afternoon/evening game at Turf City, let me know, and I will check if a pitch is available.

.... * 28 Apr to 3 May 2012 - 4 games, with no games on Monday and Tuesday as numbers were short over Labour Day (1 May) .... .... Four weeks of school holidays start this weekend. Those with children in school may go on holiday or organize other activity with their children, so it could affect numbers. Games will be cancelled if numbers don't look good.

The holidays haven't affected numbers so far. Monday night's game at Kallang was cancelled, and numbers are low for next Monday night at Kallang, but the Monday night game at Kallang has been fairly irregular for some time now. In fact, we managed 2 games last Sunday, and again on Thursday. However, apart from next Monday, this weekend's games have been slow to fill up. The Saturday game, which for some time has filled up within a day or two of being posted on Monday (ie, by Monday or Tuesday), albeit with later withdrawals making places available, has yet to fill up so far this week, and with the game to take place this evening, there is still a place available. After filling 32 places last Sunday, we currently only have 10 for the game tomorrow. We have quite a few injuries around, even before last weekend, but it didn't affect last weekend's numbers much. Maybe this weekend being the second last weekend of the school holidays, parents are taking the opportunity to get away with the family, with next weekend dedicated to getting children ready to return to school. Or perhaps it's because it's Father's Day tomorrow, and players may have other arrangement with the family, either as father or son, and don't want to commit to playing. And I have no idea how Euro 2012 is affecting numbers. It doesn't appear to have, but if players are waking up at night to watch matches, they may feel they are in no condition to play with us the following evening/night.
