www.sportsmedicine.com.sg/main.htmRaj did 1 of my 4 knee ops. Only after Raj did I realise how bad my last 2 doctors were. Raj is best man for ACL recon in Singapore. My ACL tear was recon by another doctor, and I used to do physiotherapy at NUH everyday for almost a year (during my NS). During that time, I could see all my fellow patients whose ACL were recon by Raj - all recover faster. Other ACL recons done by other doctors were slower to heal and tended to have more scarred tissue inside the knee (prolonged swelling). Even the NUH physio told me she could tell the difference between Raj's patients and other doctor patients. For me, Raj did arthroscopy on my knee to clean up my torn meniscus, and I was back to football within 6 months. Raj also gives you videotape showing how he fix up your ACL after the surgery.

His boss, mr chin thiam whye did ACL recon for me and nowadays, the procedure is much simpler n I am back in the game in less than 8 mths.. I've just been reminded that both my parents had key-hole surgery performed on their knee by A/Prof Paul Chang at SGH, to repair wear and tear due to old age. Both of them have come out of it well. I was with my mother when she saw him in 2008. He somewhat facetiously said that she could play football after a couple of months. Quite a few to choose from I guess.

... In the incident where i had a cut in between my eye and nose (it required 3 stitches by the way), i had already had the shot when i was tackled from the back from i dont know who and the next thing is Arijit is on top of me and i felt wet on my face.. Then i realized it was a nasty cut and i was bleeding.. Imran was talking to me and tending to my wound but everything is a blur.. i went out for a good 10-15 mins to wash my wound and plastered it up. .... This whole incident is non intentional and is purely an accident.. However, players should be advised against wearing any kind of ring, bangles etc during games. There is a reason all these are not allowed in football as per the rules.. Now that this has happened, i hope people realise the severity of it all.. What if it had hit my eye instead? Whose gonna be responsible? Moreover, im bearing the cost of hospital treatment myself for an incident that could have been prevented all together.. Wearing any ornaments is VERY RISKY.. Its physically and financially taxing.. I have been on the receiving end of some very late tackle but this has to be the worst so far.. Please make sure you have no sharp or dangerous objects on you when you play. Anyone spotting such object on another player, please request them to remove it. The "Playing Rules & Principles" provide that: .... * Ultimately, we are each responsible for our own well-being and the well-being of those we play with. Safety is paramount. .... Every schedule thread states that "Please read the General Information and Playing Rules & Principles posts first. Your participation in our games depends on it." All players should also consider a personal accident insurance plan. Also, no tackles from behind. I will add this to the "Rules and Principles".

I second the Personal Accident insurance plan!!! I had one with AIA and in my recent accident where my eye got blasted...total bills came up to approx SGD$2k!!!! Thankfully, 85% of that was reimbursed from my insurers. Very much worth the $14/mth that i paid for the plan

darn, I want to be the most regular regular as well! Still a long way to go.... You need to play about twice a week to get there. (Note: This post was previously entitled "Playing regularly")

Usually, if an injured player can't continue outfield, but can carry on in goal, he goes in goal. However, if a substitute is available (anyone in the vicinity who is willing to play), it might be better for the injured player to come off, and be replaced.

For Tuesday: .... [Justin] was inj halfway & had to play most of the game as keeper. .... I don't know how it affected the balance of the game or the scoreline, but remember: .... If the player who is injured continues in a limited capacity, and the other side takes or maintains a big lead, at some point in the game, the injured player should be swapped to the winning side. Or if the injured player cannot continue, and the team a player short is losing badly, better for one player from the other side to swap over. The side losing badly, but now with an extra player, should be restricted to scoring within the "D", but that can be abandoned if the balance of the game so allows.

Bcos of our robust style (which we all enjoy), soft stud shoes (the nipples ones) HIGHLY preferred......I m ok but felt some studs yesterday...........I know , I lost so gotta brin up something !!! I also received the following SMS from Raminder last night: Our Rules currently state: One reason why players don't get rubber-soled shoes might be that they are not as readily available as blades. Blades and studs are strongly discouraged rather than disallowed as I don't think we can insist that those who turn up with blades or studs do not play (or play without footwear even!). However, if you do turn up with blades or studs: .... ..., it is your responsibility to exercise extra care not to cause injury to other players, and and get round to buying an acceptable pair of boots/shoes as soon as possible. Places you can get rubber-soled football shoes suitable for astroturf: * Carl has referred us to Pro-Direct, an online football store and Queensway Weston. * Nick C mentioned the third floor at Peninsula Shopping Centre. * Clive mentioned shops selling hockey gear (as hockey is played only on astroturf). If you know of specific shops that sell rubber-soled shoes, please provide details below.

I have to disagree with the suggestion that players don't get rubber-soled shoes because they are not as readily available as blades.
All sports shops now stock studs, blades and turf shoes (both flat soles and pimpled).
More and more schools are converting their pitch to astro turfs and renting out their fields. Which means more demand for turf shoes (notwithstanding those who stick to studs or blades), and therefore also greater availability.
My pairs of studs and blades have not been used since I stopped playing 11-a-side. I have not used them for GIFFAs indoor soccer out of respect for the rules. But my current tuf shoes is wearing out and I am torn between getting a new pair of turf shoes or wearing the studs or blades (don't waste money). I see players wearing studs and blades, and I am inclined to follow. So 'lax enforcement' creates a moral hazard.
When it comes to buying a pair of replacement boots, I wonder how many players continue to stick to studs/blades or take the effort to switch over to turf shoes.
It is difficult to say the responsibility lies on the players wearing studs/blades to exercise care. 9 out of 10 times they will say the injury caused was not intentional.
How about trying to enforce a 'turf shoes only' policy for one game? If it works, it can be extended gradually to other games at all venues.

Thanks Foo Cheong. When I was looking to buy my current pair of rubber-pimpled soled shoes last year, I found only 1 of 3 shops in Queensway had them, and even then, a very limited stock. Maybe things have changed since then. .... How about trying to enforce a 'turf shoes only' policy for one game? If it works, it can be extended gradually to other games at all venues. Can I have your suggestion on how we implement it? Do we disallow those who turn up with blades or studs from playing, even if it means going ahead 4 or 5 players short?

I did thought of suggesting bringing two pairs of boots (turf & studs/blades), just like bringing two sets of jerseys, but I realise that this means giving lattitude to wearing studs/blades and this is what we are trying to prevent.
How about putting in repeated reminders at the start of the thread for that particular game, and again when suggesting line-ups?
Or just like specially demarcated games like Challenge Games, you can demarcate this game as a Turf Shoes Only game. Everyone who signs up would not have any reason to plead ignorance.
How about a 'strike 3 and you're out' policy? Possible penalty is suspension for a month, or suspension until that the player agrees to switch to turf shoes.
Another way is a fine wearing studs/blades. It may be only a nominal amount but it does get the message across. Maybe after 5 weeks (taking into account that not all are regulars, and some may be playing only 1 game during this period and may inadvertently be caught out by the new ruling), the message gets home and we will see all turf shoes.
We gotta start somewhere...

Thanks Foo Cheong. When I was looking to buy my current pair of rubber-pimpled soled shoes last year, I found only 1 of 3 shops in Queensway had them, and even then, a very limited stock. Maybe things have changed since then. I found tuf shoes in most of them. If so many of us are wearing turf shoes, there is no excuse for not being able to find them. Lack of choice is also not an excuse. First, it is the workman, not the tool. Second, there are so many good players wearing turf shoes. Does this mean that what they are wearing is not good enough for the rest?
