As each month's Update is archived under that month's post on the "Player Lists & Round Ups" board, the board will be renamed "Player Lists, Round Ups & Monthly Updates".

.... Yesterday's game was likely to be Andy P's last before he returns to England in a few weeks time after 18 years. .... .... Even if I know a player is leaving Singapore for good, the player will remain on Member List A or Guest List A until the number of games played over the preceding 6 months falls to zero. .... As one of our older players, Andy was very much within the target group of the original blog - FIOFAFI - Football Into Our Forties & Fifties. .... The current GIFFA is less targeted on older players, and we have a lot more players in their 20s and 30s. .... ..., he can still keep in touch through the message board, and play again when he next visits Singapore.

When anyone registers on the message board, they have to provide an e-mail address. If I do not recognize the e-mail address, I will send them a standard e-mail. Their account will not be approved until they reply to the e-mail and arrange to play their first game (either through me or their introducer). In the meantime, they remain on Guest List B. If after several months, they still have not played their first game, the account will be deleted. They will continue to receive the monthly e-mail Update unless and until they ask not to receive it anymore. The same applies to those on Member List B whose account is deleted. They can always re-register.

As those who are registered can communicate with each other using the private message function of the message board, I intend to delete the "Details" sub-board. One less thing for me to update. If you need the e-mail address or telephone number of a registered player, send them a private message requesting the details. If you need the e-mail address or telephone number of a guest player, send a private message to their introducer requesting the details. I'll provide a list of introducers at regular intervals. As players who register are not strictly members of anything, from now on, I'll refer to the listing of registered players as "Registered List" instead of "Member List" .... For those on Member List B, I have added (MB) in front of their default Display Name. .... This will now be (RB).

For Registered List B: .... To make Registered List B easier to maintain, I'll simplify the criteria further. Any player dropped from Registered List A can remain on Registered List B for 1 to 4 quarters, depending on how many games they have previously played. Those who played more can remain on the list longer. Those who continue to use the message board can remain beyond 4 quarters. .... For Guest List A: .... Despite three names being dropped as not having played in the last 6 months, the number of names on Guest List A has jumped from 74 to 85. .... The rate of increase in the number on Registered List A has slowed down over the past few months, from 139 in April 2011 to 143 currently. I don't expect to reach 200 before the end of the year, but I do hope we get to 150 soon. On the other hand, the number on Guest List A has increased rapidly from 65 in April 2011 to 85 currently. Guests who play regular should register, even if it is just for the sake of being registered. The aim is to have at least twice as many players on Registered List A as there are on Guest List A. Currently, it is 143 to 85. If 9 guests were registered, it would be 152 to 76 (2:1). 10 guests have played 6 times or more in the past 6 months.

If I am provided with the e-mail addresses of guests who play regularly, I will add them to the e-mail Updates.

.... The greater concern currently is the increasing proportion of guests, making it harder for registered players to get a game: .... I am looking at limiting each registered player to putting down a maximum of two guests, without a limit on putting down other registered players, with effect from September 2010 onwards. Therefore, if a registered player puts down 7 names including himself, only 2 can be guests, while the other 4 must be registered. Alternatively, 3 registered members can put down their own names and up to 2 guests each, making a total of 9 (3 registered members and up to 6 guests). Anyway, it's easy for a guest to become registered, just register on this message board! By the end of the year, it may be limited to one guest per registered player.

Roy Thian and Vincent Y2 have registered, and are moved from Guest List A to Registered List A. Vincent Y2 is now Vincent YZQ. to distinguish him from Vincent Y1 (both Yeo). We have a few players with exactly the same name, such as Daniel Tan. Currently, they are distinguished as Daniel T1 and T2. When any of them register, I will use their initials for their surname and other (Chinese) name. I previously used this method for Daniel LJK. As we get more players, there will be increasing incidence of players with the same name, so this method will be used increasingly.

Until we re-started a 5-a-side game at The Cage on Monday nights, all our games had been 7 or 8-a-side for quite a while. It is hard to believe we only started playing on a big pitch on weeknights in July 2010. 7 or 8-a-side games first became a regular feature on Sundays at Turf City towards the end of August 2009. With the switch from 5-a-side games to 7 or 8-a-side games, even with 4 games, we had at least 56 players. With game at The Cage on Monday nights, and the Wednesday and Thursday night games switched to Khalsa, it had settled down as: * Monday 9 to 10 pm at The Cage (5-a-side) * Tuesday 9 to 10 pm at Sports Planet (7-a-side) * Wednesday 9 to 10 pm at Khalsa (7-a-side) * Thursday 9 to 10 pm at Khalsa (7-a-side) * Saturday 5 to 6 pm at Turf City (7 or 8-a-side) * Sunday 5 to 6 pm at Turf City (7 or 8-a-side) Since last Saturday, we've had two extra 7-a-side games, one from 4 to 5 pm on Sunday at Turf City, and the other from 9 to 10 pm last night at Sports Planet. That's 8 games in total within a week, with 108 places filled. 8 games equals the previous record. However, on the previous occasions we had 8 games in a week, most of them were 5-a-side games. Including the women's game on Sunday, we've had 9 games within a week. The 108 places beats the previous record of 103 places filled within a week achieved last August. (Note: I've moved the posts from the GIFFA Records thread on the "Administration & Overview" board to this thread.)

You're welcome Fai.
We had three games tonight, first time we've had three games on the same day:
* Challenge match from 8 to 9 pm at Khalsa. * Regular game from 9 to 10 pm at Khalsa. * Regular game from 9 to 10 pm at Sports Planet.
42 places filled in those 3 games.
Since Saturday, 114 places have been filled in 8 games (excluding the women's game on Sunday), a new record.

There are a lot of important discussions on the message board. Recently, we've had discussions on the dangers of blades/studs, and ankle injuries. Even if players don't read the message board regularly, I make reference to important matters in the monthly e-mail Updates. I have e-mail addresses for everyone who is registered on the message board as you have to provide an e-mail address when you register. I also have e-mail addresses for several guests (who are not registered). However, there are guests who play regularly but are completely out of the loop as to what is going on as I do not have their e-mail addresses. Our games are not just about getting a game whenever you want to play, but about playing in the right spirit. Regular guests should at least receive the regular e-mail Updates so that they have no excuse for not knowing about significant issues that arise. For some time now, the preamble to each Update has been: From next month onwards, in order to play more than 5 regular games over a six month period, players must be registered or I must have an e-mail address for guest players. The following are the guests who have played 3 times or more in the 6 months from March to August 2011: Introducer Number of games played

Nawal Raminder 15

Cheng Poh Look Liew 13

Derian David T 13

Wilson David T 11

Shawn L Mark T 9

Daniel T2 David T 8

Kelvin H David T 8

Sean L David T 8

Andrew Ng Fai 6

Eric Y Rai 4

Vincent Y Look Liew 4

Andreas Timmy 3

Glenn F Melvin Au 3

Markus Timmy 3

I trust their introducers will provide me with their e-mail addresses. Ideally, anyone who has played more than 10 games should register, but I'll let that go for now. Registered players who frequently don't seem to know anything about significant issues even when they have been repeatedly addressed in the e-mail Updates will have their registration reviewed.

For all players registering after today, I will not approve their registration unless I am satisfied they meet our minimum standards. After they play their first game, they will remain on Guest List A until their registration is approved. I guess the Registered Lists should be called Approved Lists.

.... From next month onwards, in order to play more than 5 regular games over a six month period, players must be registered or I must have an e-mail address for guest players. .... I'll delay the introduction of this rule until November 2011 to allow introducers more time to provide me with the e-mail addresses of their regular guests. .... Guests are not a problem, and returning guests are always welcome. I just like to know that the things I am doing and new stuff I am introducing will primarily benefit registered players. .... There have to be benefits for registering.

The August Update just made it in August itself: .... The August Update has been delayed, but finally went out a short while ago. but the September Update spilled over into October: The September Update has been delayed until October as there has been even more going on than in August! It finally went out a short while ago. It went out to more than 350 recipients - everyone who has played since January 2009 for whom I have an e-mail address. .... ..., for those who are no longer interested, please let me know. You will continue to receive the monthly e-mail Updates, and from time to time, SMSes asking you if you want to play, unless you tell me you do not wish to receive them, or play again. Also: .... The rate of increase in the number on Registered List A has slowed down over the past few months, from 139 in April 2011 to 143 currently. I don't expect to reach 200 before the end of the year, but I do hope we get to 150 soon. .... .... ..., the total number on Approved List A has increased from 147 to 150. ....
