.... I'll only approve the registration of players who are 21 and above. Players between the ages of 18 and 21 can be put down for a game as guests by registered players. Players under 18 can only be fillers, that is, to fill up any places left when the line ups are due. .... Approval, provided of course the other criteria ( played in at least one game, and I am satisfied the player meets our minimum standards) are met. Players between 18 and 21 will be added to the Guest List. Players under 18 will not.

However, the payment entry is also used to count the number of games played. Therefore, I will make an entry if more than half the players in the team are on Approved List A. In that sense, it is still a GIFFA team playing.

Being on the Approved Lists means you can put names down for games, either your own or friends. 18 months may be too long. I've discovered I can disable an account without deleting it. Therefore, those who have been on Approved List B for 1 to 6 months will have their accounts disabled first. This means that while you don't have to re-register, you need me contact me first, to enable your account. Therefore, we will now have the following player lists: * Approved List A - Those who have played in the past 6 months, are registered, and have had their registration approved (indicated by no letters in front of their name). * Guest List - Those who have played in the past 6 months but are either not registered or have not had their registration approved yet (indicated by (G) before their name if they are registered). * Pending List - Those who have registered but have not had their registration approved as they have not played before (indicated by (P) before their name). * Approved List B - Those who have not played in the past 6 months, but have played in the past 7 to 12 months, and have not had their account disabled yet (indicated by (AB) before their name). * Disabled List - Those who have not played in the past 7 to 24 months, and have had their account disabled (indicated by (D) before their name). Players can remain on Approved List B for 1 to 6 months. This would be 7 to 12 months after they last played. Those who played or contributed more in the past will be allowed to remain longer. Those who continue to post on the message board may be allowed to remain on the list indefinitely. Likewise, players can remain on the Disabled List for 2 to 12 months before their registration is deleted. This would be 9 to 24 months after they last played. Again, those who played or contributed more in the past will be allowed to remain longer. Those whose registration is deleted can always re-register. All it means is that players who don't play for 7 months or more (more in the case of players who have played or contributed more in the past) will have to go through additional steps before they can again put names down for a game: * If on the Disabled List, contact me. * If their registration is deleted, re-register. It will take me some time to change the indications before the names of those affected.

From the FIFFA blog: So today is the start of the second anniversary week. GIFFA is for indoor football generally. Prepayment was introduced at the start of the year. We now regularly have 6 to 8 games a week. Apart from the Monday night game at The Cage, which is 5-a-side, the rest are 7 or 8-a-side games. 159 approved players and 77 guests are currently active (over the past 6 months). The total of 236 is more than we've ever had. OPSAGE is also now on the GIFFA message board. Apart from GIFFA, FIFFA (formerly known as FIOFAFI) dates back to January 2008. Its focus was on football and other activities for older adults. It is currently dormant, but I aim to revive it in the near future.

Over the course of next month (January 2012), I will disable the accounts of all those on Approved List B who have not played since January 2011. Back in October 2011: I've deleted the registration of a few players who haven't played in more than 9 months: .... I will not delete any accounts before April 2012.

The columns on the far right of the second sheet of the current balances spreadsheet provide the total number of games played in the last 4 quarters, the last 8 quarters and since January 2009. However, before now, they do not include games played in the current quarter. .... I just assumed no one ever looked at those columns .... .... I can easily change the last column to reflect the total number of games played since January 2009. I will do that when I next upload the latest spreadsheet. ..... Done. The last column to the right is now the total number of games played from January 2009 until the last update. To the right of the number of games by quarter are columns showing the number of games by month, from October 2010 onwards. However, if a player drops off Approved List A or the Guest List, and then returns to Approved List A or the Guest List, the data for individual months which are more than 6 months ago are reset to nil, and therefore not accurate. It does not affect the quarterly figures, which are stored separately, or the totals, which are based on the quarterly figures. From next year onwards, for the monthly figures, only the last 6 months will be shown.

The "New Players" sub-board was added to the Discussion & Introductions board back in February 2011. Approved players can introduce new players by putting down their names for a game. By doing so, the approved player is vouching that the new player meets our minimum standard. .... .... I think it takes at least 3 games to have a good idea if a player fits in. Therefore, I don't expect anyone to register before they have played 3 games. Even if you do not know anyone who plays in our games, instead of registering, just introduce yourself on the "New Players" sub-board. Provide your contact details, and I will get in touch with you. I will remove your contact details from the post after I have taken them down. .... I'll move the "New Players" sub-board to the "Player Lists & Updates" board. As the board is about players generally, and not just the player lists, while the "Updates" are specifically the monthly Updates, I'll rename the board "Players & Monthly Updates".

The participation records used to show the total number of games played since 1 September 2008. In January 2011, with the use of payment records to keep track of the number of games played, I dropped the records for the period from 1 September 2008 to 31 December 2008. The advantage of dropping the 2008 records were: * We now have records for whole years - 2009, 2010 and 2011. * The period from 1 September 2008 to 31 December 2008 was 4 months. By dropping that period, the records for 2009, 2010 and 2010 are maintained on a more consistent quarterly basis. I have put up a table showing the number of games played over the following periods: * 2011 * 2010 & 2011 * 2009, 2010 & 2011 I have used a Wikipedia userpage as it is easy to sort the table by any of the three columns. There has been a total of 568 players since January 2009. For 2011, the top 10 are: Name Number of games played

1 Justin R 83

2 Lynz 72

3 Rajiv 69

4 Rajseran 68

5 Dave H 66

6 Rainer 63

6 Stan D Man 63

8 David M 62

9 Jye 60

10 Azmi 59

For 2010 to 2011, the top 10 are: Name Number of games played

1 Justin R 146

2 Azmi 123

3 Dave H 122

4 Rajiv 118

5 David M 112

6 Rajseran 109

7 Stephen C 107

8 Jye 103

9 Stan D Man 97

10 Imran 91

For 2009 to 2011, the top 10 are: Name Number of games played

1 Azmi 173

2 Rajiv 171

2 Rajseran 171

4 Sushil 153

5 Justin R 146

6 Imran 138

7 Bobby 136

8 Jye 130

9 John J 128

10 Gilbert L 127

It is a matter of sustainability. Results are secondary. We keep score for the fun of it, but after you've played 50 or more games, do you actually remember how many you've won and lost, let alone the scoreline? For my part, I stopped keeping records of results in September 2010.

Apart from having played in at least one of our games, there are are two other requirements before I approve the registration of a new player on the message board: * The player meets our minimum standard. * The player will be at least 21 in the current year. .... I will be stricter this year about approving the registration of new players. Even after the minimum standard requirement was introduced in early October 2011, I have been approving registrations of new players as long as after they play their first game, no issue is raised with me about their standard of play. From now on, I won't approve the registration until I am satisfied the player meets our minimum standard. This means either: * I play in the same game as the player and see for myself that he can play. * There are positive comments about the player in the post-game reports. * He plays several games, and there are no adverse comments about him, and his presence in one team or other other does not swing the game against the team he is on. .... Provided that they meet our minimum standard, I hope all guests who have played 5 more or more games over any 6 month period will register, while those who play less than 5 games over any 6 month period will wait until they are more familiar with our games before they register. I'm moving towards benefitting approved players before guests. After your registration is approved, other approved players can put your name down for games without any limitation (except for the limit of 3 or 4 within the first 48 hours after the schedule thread is put up). I should be provided with an e-mail address for those who play 5 games or more over the preceding 6 months but are not registered, so that they at least receive the monthly e-mail Updates. I obtained the e-mail addresses for 3 regular guests last Thursday. The only remaining guests who have played 5 or more games over the past 6 months whose e-mail address I don't have are Cheng Poh and Andrew Ng. .... Over the course of this month (December 2011), I will disable the accounts of all those on Approved List B who have not played since June 2010. Over the course of next month (January 2012), I will disable the accounts of all those on Approved List B who have not played since January 2011. .... The following accounts have been disabled - Assad, Balach, Eli, Eric T, Federico, Gilbert G, Jonathan S, Jordan, Jose, Kevin A, Maran, Mark Leong, Michael K, Paul M, Sagnik, Sunny, Wayne P. They are moved from Approved List B to the Disabled List - indicated by (D) before their name. As our games are constantly evolving, anyone who hasn't played for a long time (7 to 24 months, depending on how involved they were before) should be re-introduced in a systematic way, similar to new players.

I've merged the following threads relating to the message board: * Using the message board * Assessing the message board * Message board layout by moving all the posts into the first one. I've also merged "Milestones" into "Players, records & contact details". I've also renamed the two remaining threads as "The message board & modes of communication * "Players & records" respectively. Discussions about contact details and the monthly e-mail Updates will now be on the former. I've also moved posts relating to message board milestones from the later to the former. ....

.... If a late replacement is found at the venue by those playing the game: * If it is not one of our regular players, I do not look to the player for payment, and do not record it as a game played by that player. * If it is one of our regular players, I look to the player for payment of half the usual payment (even though the player plays the full game), and record it as a game played by that player. If the players make alternative arrangements between themselves for payment, that's up to them. I'm just looking to be covered to the extent set out above. Just inform me of the outcome. .... ... do we field only replacements who are willing to pay? Makes finding a replacement much more difficult. If the replacement doesn't pay, I won't record the replacement as having played. If the replacement is not known to me, then it's straightforward, he doesn't pay. If the replacement is one of our regulars, I'll leave it to him whether he wants to pay half and be recorded as having played, or not.

Thought I would post this as it has become quite an interesting/humorous topic of late! As we all know Brendan is a fine player! He told me a few weeks ago he was on a 6 match losing streak, this has now become a 12 match consecutive losing streak which must be a GIFFA record!
It is interesting to see how long this goes on for for the poor lad.........
