I've moved the women's games to a separate category - "Women's & Mixed Games". There are two boards under this category: * "Schedule" - The former "Other Games" board. The few men's games listed on the "other Games" board have been moved to a new "Other Games" board. * "Reports" - I have moved reports on women's games in the fourth quarter to this board. The earlier ones listed above remain under the original "Reports" board. The women's game has remained from 6 to 7 pm on Sundays at the Premier Pitch. If there are enough players, the game is on the big pitch, if not on the small pitch. There was no women's game on 5 December 2010.

There was no women's game yesterday.
The women players are predominantly from the Law Society women's team, and they have resumed their own training on Sunday afternoons, for a contest in May 2011.
As such, I may not schedule the regular Sunday evening women's game until after May 2011. In the interval, I may instead re-institute a mixed game on Saturday evenings from 6 to 7 pm.

I spoke to Hur Yuin last Friday. I won't schedule the women's game on Sunday (6 to 7 pm, Premier Pitch, Turf City) until after the Bench & Bar Games on 1 May 2011. Instead, from next Saturday onwards, I will schedule a mixed game on Saturdays, from 6 to 7 pm, on a small pitch at the Premier Pitch, Turf City. This was what we used to have before the women's game became a regular thing (since last August).

Not enough players this Saturday, and Hur Yuin informs me her team-mates won't be available next Saturday. Also, they may not be keen on a mixed game, so I may have a women's game instead on the small pitch at Turf City from 6 to 7 pm on Saturday, 19 March 2011.

Hur Yuin has also informed me that they don't have a pitch for training this Sunday (13 March 2011), so they would like to have the 6 to 7 pm slot at Turf City.

I received the following SMS from Hur Yuin on Sunday evening: Congratulations to the team on a stunning victory. We didn't manage a mixed game in the interval, although, as stated above, there was one women's game on Sunday 13 March 2011. The women's game resumes this Sunday.

From time to time, I get one of the following requests: * To play with three teams over two hours. * To provide players for a game organized by someone else which is short of players. * Another group or team looking for a game against us. Under the blog, these requests were dealt with under "OPSAGE" ("Other Projects, Sports, Activities, Games & Events"). The aim of this message board ( the blog before that) is to have a game of indoor football every day of the week, so that anyone who wants to play a game can get a game to their convenience, provided that there are enough players for the game, and they put their names down early enough. We currently have games every day of the week except Friday. Our games are 9 to 10 pm on working weekdays, and 5 to 6 pm or 6 to 7 pm on weekends and public holidays. Our games are played for one hour, flat out, without substitutes. If you need to catch your breath, go in goal. Many of our players are in their 30s and 40s, with work, family, social, travel and other commitments, and setting aside two hours (plus travel time) for a game, especially on a weeknight, can be a bit of a luxury. Increasingly, I am sticking with regular games that are one, short, sharp hour, filled primarily through the message board. It also allows for greater standardization of our games, so that regular players know what to expect, and get what they expect, each and every regular game. Greater standardization also reduces the amount of work I have to do. If anyone is looking for anything else, you can try to organize it yourself, using the "Other Games" board. It helps if you play regularly in our games and meet other players before you try to use the "Other Games" board to organize or propose other games.

Damian SMSed me as follows this morning: "i got a young team want a friendly match with us 7 or 8 a side next sun. Can we put up a team? Tks" Further to what is set out above: .... I wouldn't want to deprive any of our regulars of game by switching a regular game to a representative game. This is especially so for popular games. Instead, I have booked a big pitch at the Premier Pitch @ Turf City for this Sunday from 4 to 5 pm. Damian (or anyone else for that matter) can put together a team to play against the other team. As a representative game, it can be open to everyone on a first-come, first-in basis, or by invitation only, at the discretion of Damian or anyone else putting the team together. Contact numbers for everyone are available here. Whoever puts the team together can either take over the booking from me, or pay me $160 after the game. .... I'm afraid I won't be putting the team together. .... Unlike our regular games, representative games need not be open to all members, and can be by invitation only.

For tomorrow's game: I have about 9-10 guys on standby, if no one else signs up... .... Kelvin, I suggest you divide your 8 players into two teams of 4, and add yourself [plus two others] to one, and [the other three] to the other. Rajiv, my guys are training for a company futsal tournament, so was going to suggest grouping (4-10) together, and the rest on another team. We're not very strong, and have never played together - we're playing to get in shape! I don't mind a good work out (or trashing even )... In any case if it gets too uneven, we can swap around during the course of the game. You guys ok with that? In effect, a representative game. This could happen in the last 48 hours before a game, where the alternative would have been to cancel the game. It has happened before, but fairly rarely. I'll leave it to those playing whether they are ok with the line ups.

The game against another team today was proposed and organised as a representative game. .... In such a representative game, the players on the other team are not added to the player lists, and even if they are currently on the player lists from having played previously, it doesn't count as a game for them (unless the other team are short of players, and a player who puts his name down to play for GIFFA ends up making up the numbers for the other team). On the other hand, for last Thursday's game between Kelvin Au's work team and the rest (referred to above): * Those on Kelvin Au's team who hadn't played before were added to the player lists. * It counts as a game in the monthly round ups for everyone on that team. .... .... They are added as the Thursday game was scheduled as usual, and their names were added as usual for the game, even though, as a matter of line ups, they played as part of Kelvin Au's team Not strictly a representative game.

The GIFFA games I organize are either regular or extra. The games we have every week at a particular venue and/or time slot are regular. I do the following: * Put up the schedule thread 5 days beforehand. * Monitor the names put down for the game. * Try to find more players if the game is short of players. * Decide whether to cancel the game if we don't have enough players. * Suggest line ups. * Ensure the pitch is paid for, and collect payment from the players. * If a report thread is not put up by anyone who played in the game, I will do so. If places in a regular game fill up quickly, and a lot more people would like to play a game that week, or if there is a day and/or time slot where we don't have a game that is worth trying, I might schedule an extra game. .... If the date/time/venue of an extra game proves to be popular, it can become a regular game (subject to the continued availability of a pitch on/at that date/time venue). .... GIFFA games are organized according to the system set out under "General Information" played according the GIFFA "Playing Rules & Principles". Apart from GIFFA games: .... We have a large pool of players, so anyone who is interested can arrange a match against another team, or between two GIFFA teams. .... There are players looking to arrange such games, for example: .... Hi Kelvin, My company team is looking teams for friendly game as well. Shall we link up? The "Other Games" board can be used to organize such games. If the game is put up on the "Other Games" board, I will try to help in whatever way I can, for example, making a booking at one of our regular venues, or trying to get 1 or 2 more players if the game is short of players. Such other games need not be open to all members, and can be by invitation only. However, the game should not be played in a manner inconsistent with the GIFFA Principles. Any registered member who organizes or plays in such a game can add a report after the game. Where either team plays as GIFFA (or FIOFAFI), or as two GIFFA teams (eg, GIFFA1 v GIFFA2): A report can be put up on the report board even if the game is not scheduled, proposed or organized on this message board. If half or more of the players are registered members of GIFFA, I will count is as a game for them in the monthly round up. If there is sufficient interest, I may create a separate "Reports" board for other games.

.... Our regular games remain open to all adults. However, as the standard keeps going up with new players, and games become more competitive, I need to consider how to accommodate weaker players, or those looking for a less competitive game. I've considered having different kinds of games before. Trying to re-start a mixed game may be the first way forward. Re-introducing a mixed game would also give the female players an additional opportunity to play. I'm considering re-starting a mixed game on Saturdays, 6 to 7 pm, at the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa.
