We've managed a game on the big pitch at the Premier Pitch from 5 to 6 pm two weeks in a row now, so we'll stick with that. The pool of players is getting bigger, and the games are getting better. All our games are now 7 or 8-a-side: - Tuesdays and Thursdays at Sports Planet, 9 to 10 pm. - Saturdays and Sundays at Premier Pitch, 5 to 6 pm. The women's game on Sundays from 6 to 7 pm at the Premier Pitch has also often been a 7-a-side on the big pitch. After we stopped playing at Bukit Timah Campus (in October 2008), our games were 5-a-side (at Sports Planet or The Cage) or 6-a-side (on the small pitch at the Premier Pitch). The 7 or 8-a-side games on the big pitch have become very popular since we started having such games regularly from August 2009 onwards. Personally, I prefer the 5-a-side games, so I'll try to introduce one or two before the end of the year, either Sundays, 6 to 7 pm, at Sports Planet, or Mondays, 9 to 10 pm, at The Cage, or both.

Starting next month, I'll do an extra 5-a-side game each week, rotating between:
* Monday, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage * Wednesday, 9 to 10 pm, Sports Planet * Sunday, 6 to 7 pm, Sports Planet
Apart from trying to re-introduce 5-a-side games, the extra games will be 5-a-side as I won't know how good the response will be.
If any of the games proves popular, it will be made regular.

The extra game on Sunday was cancelled, the extra game on Wednesday has been switched to The Cage. I guess as people go on holiday towards the end of the year, numbers will dwindle.

At this time of the year, a lot of people are away, or have family or social commitments. Even today's Sunday game was difficult to fill up.
The Thursday game at Sports Planet has taken a fair amount of SMSing to fill up over the last couple of weeks. In addition to the Tuesday night game at Sports Planet, I will have the following games on Wednesday/Thursday over the next two weeks:
* Wednesday, 15 December 2010 - The Cage, 9 to 10 pm. * Thursday, 23 December 2010 - Sports Planet, 9 to 10 pm (big pitch)
I will see how the above games go before deciding on whether any additional games are required, and what games to have on 29/30 December 2010.
I also intend to have only one game over each weekend until the start of the new year:
* Saturday, 18 December 2010 - Premier Pitch, 5 to 6 pm. * Sunday, 26 December 2010 - Premier Pitch, 5 to 6 pm. * Sunday, 2 January 2010 - Premier Pitch, 5 to 6 pm.
No games on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Look Liew informed me yesterday that there is another team that wants to play against us on Saturday. He asked if he can use the 5 to 6 pm booking. That means only 8 places available on Saturday. As there are currently only three players down for the Saturday game, I'll let Look Liew have the booking and reinstate the usual Sunday game. The three who have already put their names down for Saturday can play for Look Liew's team, switch to Sunday, or play both. I've moved the thread for the Saturday game to "Other Games". Converting a regular game to match against another team is exceptional. However, in this case, as there was only going to be one regular game this weekend, it doesn't really matter if it is on Saturday or Sunday, so the other booking is available. Look Liew informed me that the other team cannot make Sunday.

Rai has SMSed to ask whether there can be a game on Thursday. He's agreed to take over the booking.

Any chance for return of weekday 5 a-side games next year?

Any chance for return of weekday 5 a-side games next year? I will continue with extra 5-a-side games until the numbers are good enough to have a regular 5-a-side game. Even several of those who have played the last few extra 5-a-side games tell me they prefer the 7-a-side games. I prefer 5-a-side myself, so I will try to get a regular 5-a-side game going by February or March next year. I didn't have an extra 5-a-side game this week as I was not sure how many people are away or have other family or social commitments. I have also been quite busy this week. My apologies to those who were in reserve this week but didn't get a game. We might have had enough players for an extra game on Monday or Wednesday. I will schedule an extra 5-a-side game next Wednesday at Sports Planet.

.... I will schedule an extra 5-a-side game next Wednesday at Sports Planet. Game cancelled. Too many people away, with other social engagements at this time of the year (between Christmas and New Year) or busy at work (at this time of the year!?).

No games over the last two Saturdays of 2010 as they fall on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, but I will try to resume the Saturday evening game at the Premier Pitch on 8 January 2011. As usual, the regular games in the first quarter of 2011 will be: * Tuesdays, 9 to 10 pm, Sports Planet (7-a-side pitch). * Thursdays, 9 to 10 pm, Sports Planet (7-a-side pitch). * Saturdays, 5 to 6 pm, Premier Pitch (big pitch). * Sundays, 5 to 6 pm, Premier Pitch (big pitch). Prepayment has been introduced for the Tuesday and Thursday night games. Prepayment for the Sunday game will be introduced in February 2011. I will also be doing an extra 5-a-side game each week. I had hoped to alternate between Monday nights at the Cage and Wednesday nights at Sports Planet, but a 5-a-side pitch is not available on Wednesdays, 9 to 10 pm, in January. Therefore, the extra games in January will be as follows: * Wednesday, 5 January 2010, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang) * Monday, 10 January 2010, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang) * Wednesday, 19 January 2010, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang) * Monday, 24 January 2010, 9 to 10 pm, The Cage (Kallang) I will not require prepayment for extra games. In February, I intend to start a regular 5-a-side game on Wednesday nights at Sports Planet. Whether the Monday night game at The Cage continues into February depends on how popular it is. If the Wednesday night game at Sports Planet is popular, I may consider moving it to a 7-a-side pitch.

At tonight's game, both Stanley and Leo asked me if we can have a game this Saturday (1 Jan 2010). As the Sunday game is already full, we can try.

At tonight's game, both Stanley and Leo asked me if we can have a game this Saturday (1 Jan 2010). As the Sunday game is already full, we can try. As discussed when planning the schedule, not enough people available, so the game didn't go on. The Saturday game will resume next week as per the schedule.

As I've scheduled an extra game next week on Wednesday night on the 7-a-side pitch at Sports Planet, I won't have an extra game on Monday. Having two weeknight extra games would be stretching it.
I'll leave an extra game at The Cage until the following week.

The extra game last night at the 7-a-side pitch at Sports Planet went well. I don't have the 7-a-side pitch at Sports Planet next Wednesday, so we'll have the extra game on Wednesday at The Cage instead, but the 7-a-side pitch at Sports Planet is available from the following Wednesday onwards. This includes the eve of Chinese New Year (2 February 2011). As our Singaporean Chinese players are likely to have family and social commitments that night, we may be short of players, so I won't risk a 7-a-side game that night. Also, 3 to 6 February 2011 is a long weekend, so I'm not sure how that will affect our other regular games on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
