We had an extra 7-a-side game yesterday [Wednesday], and we still have 4 reserves for tonight [Thursday]! .... All three games on the 7-a-side pitch at Sports Planet filled up, with still 4 more in reserve, and perhaps others who might have played if there had been any places left. I don't have the 7-a-side pitch next Wednesday, so expect greater competition for places for the games on Tuesday and Thursday. Beyond next week, there will be games on the 7-a-side pitch at Sports Planet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights (with some modifications for Chinese New Year). If they continue to fill up early with players in reserve, we can consider an additional game on either Monday or Friday night. If so, the reintroduction of a regular weeknight game at The Cage might have to wait a little longer.

As next Wednesday (2 February 2011) is the eve of Chinese New Year, I won't have a game that night. I'm wondering whether the Thursday night game at Sports Planet should be brought forward to an earlier time as it is a public holiday. However, it has been raining during the day, but usually stops at night, so it might be better to keep the game at the usual time of 9 to 10 pm. As it is also a long weekend, I don't plan to have an extra game on the second public holiday (Friday).

Yesterday's game was cancelled due to the Chinese New Year long weekend. .... we still only have 7. .... Too many people away or visiting I guess. Everyone down for Saturday are in for today (Sunday), except me and my two guests.

On Monday afternoon: Still a bit of slack due to the Chinese New Year, so I don't want to be spread too thin over Wednesday and Thursday. I need to make the call on the Wednesday game by this evening, and still a lot of places for Thursday (albeit more names down than for Wednesday - 4), so Wednesday's game looks like being cancelled. .... I cancelled Wednesday's game later that afternoon, but by Tuesday morning: Thursday filled up very quickly, and we have reserves already, so I'll re-open the Wednesday game (as the big pitch is still available). Due to the late re-opening, I SMSed. The game was filled up with 3 hours. Still a bit of a CNY slack though - with players switching to Wednesday and with withdrawals, 2 places still available for tonight (Thursday). The take up for this Sunday's game is unusually slow, with still 6 places left. I suppose the slack will continue until Chap Goh Mei, on 17 February 2011.

The Thursday and Sunday games filled up in the end (although the Sunday game required a fair bit of SMSing). I expect this Wednesday's game to fill up largely on the message board, but I'm not sure about Thursday, as Chap Goh Mei falls on that day. I expect next Sunday to fill up quickly, as it is after Chap Goh Mei. If so, I will consider using the 6 to 7 pm booking for an extra game (instead of the women's game, which may take a break until May 2011). I will try to re-start a weeknight game at The Cage in March 2011. It will be on Monday nights, at the usual time slot of 9 to 10 pm. I may try fortnightly at first, until there are sufficient numbers for it to be a regular, weekly game.

On Thursday: As both the games on Saturday and Sunday are full, I'm putting up this extra game. .... However, by yesterday: Still a lot of Sunday regulars not back to playing yet after Chinese New Year. For next weekend, I'll put up the extra game from 6 to 7 pm on Sunday on the big pitch at the Premier Pitch the full 7 days beforehand.

The take up for the regular game on Sunday is slow, so I doubt we'll need the extra game on Sunday. As Boris is keen on The Cage on weeknights, I'll re-start the Monday night game at The Cage next Monday (28 February 2011) instead of waiting for the first Monday of March (the following Monday, 7 March 2011). I'll delete the thread for the extra game on Sunday, and put up a new thread for the Monday night game.

Not the best week to try for an extra game. .... An unexpectedly large number of people away or with one-off games this weekend. We barely got 14 for Saturday, and for Sunday: We didn't get any more players, so the game went ahead on the small pitch. Nevertheless, it was good to play 6-a-side on the small pitch again. The first time I put up a schedule thread for an extra game on Sunday before the regular game (let alone before it is full), and this is what we get. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a surge for next Sunday's game, if all the regulars are back. Predicting numbers is as difficult as ever. The extra game at The Cage on Monday night has also been cancelled due to insufficient players. I will schedule an extra game at The Cage on Monday nights throughout March (except 14 March 2011 as no pitch is available that night), and see how it goes.

No surge for today's game. Instead, less than last week - only 10 players - so the game was a 5-a-side on the small pitch. .... Lots of players seem to be working or travelling at the weekends. Numbers for the weekend games (the Sunday game in particular) have fallen away a lot in recent weeks. Instead of considering an extra 7-a-side game on Sunday, we're only getting enough for the small pitch on Sunday. ... hopefully we'll be back to the big pitch again next week.

Tonight's game at The Cage filled up, and in fact, we had a couple more who switched to later in the week.
Unfortunately, I do not have a pitch at The Cage next Monday for 9 to 10 pm, but I have a pitch from the week after onwards.

Currently, I refer to our regular venues in the 'Subject' of the the schedule thread as follows: * Sports Planet (ECP) * Premier Pitch (Turf C) * The Cage (Kallang) From next week onwards, the Wednesday night game will be at the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa. To help distinguish between the Premier Pitch @ Turf City and the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa, from next week's schedule thread onwards, I will refer to the location first, and the proper name in brackets (abbreviated as necessary to fit in the limited space allowed for the 'Subject'), as follows: * E. Coast (S. Planet) * Turf City (P. Pitch) * Kallang (The Cage) * Khalsa (Prem Pitch) Below is a location map for the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa ( click to enlarge), which can also be viewed here.

Unfortunately, the first game scheduled for the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa has been cancelled. Numbers were stuck at 9: Doesn't look like we'll get to 14. I've SMSed everyone I thought might play (apart from those who logged on themselves in the past couple of days), but we're still well short. Too many away or injured I understand. I've asked everyone whose name is still down whether they can switch to Thursday night at Sports Planet. Srini is already down for Thursday, too far for Boris, and David M hasn't replied yet, but the rest can switch. Game cancelled. .... I hope we have more players next week. In terms of quality of the pitch, location and price, it's the best venue we've had.

Only one name down so far for the coming Monday night game at The Cage. I'm not going to risk not having enough players, so the game is cancelled. The Monday night at The Cage will be scheduled as usual for the following week.

A few changes and some experimentation over the past few weeks, including the re-introduction of the Monday night game at The Cage and the switch of both the Wednesday and Thursday night games from Sports Planet to Premier Pitch @ Khalsa. From next week onwards, the regular games will be: * Mondays, 9 to 10 pm - The Cage * Tuesdays, 9 to 10 pm - Sports Planet * Wednesdays, 9 to 10 pm - Premier Pitch @ Khalsa * Thursdays, 9 to 10 pm - Premier Pitch @ Khalsa * Saturdays, 5 to 6 pm - Premier Pitch @ Turf City * Sundays, 5 to 6 pm - Premier Pitch @ Turf City As Tuesday night's game at Sports Planet was cancelled as there were no lights due to damage to the power box, I might switch next Thursday's game to Sports Planet in order to make up an extra game at Sports Planet, and as a final farewell the Thursday night games at Sports Planet, which has been popular at various times. Prepayment has been introduced for all games at Sports Planet, the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa and The Cage. The price is $10 per player. The Tuesday night game has been fully prepaid since early on. The other games are largely prepaid as well. .... To encourage more to prepay, for May and June 2011, there will be a 10% discount for those whose prepayment is received before the game, that is, $9 instead of $10. Prepayment has not yet been introduced for the weekend games at the Premier Pitch. .... I cannot cap it at $10 per person like I do for Sports Planet, the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa and The Cage, as the big pitch at Turf City is significantly more expensive. For a fixed price, I need to base it on the minimum number of players for the game to go ahead on the big pitch. This is currently: * 12 for the Saturday game, which works out to $13.50 per person. * 14 for the Sunday game, which works out to $11.50 per person. I intend to introduce prepayment for the weekend games by June 2011. $13.50 may be unfair to those who would be willing to play at Khalsa for $10, but have to pay $3.50 more to play at Turf City. .... .... Once the weekend games become prepaid, all our regular games will be prepaid. If there are sufficient numbers, a weekend game at Khalsa can be in addition to the existing games. I am also monitoring whether the Premier Pitch @ Turf City remains open beyond August. .... I don't think we currently have enough for such an extra game, but if numbers increase, it might happen. If those who continue to play on Saturday evenings at Turf City are prepared for the pricing, we can keep it at 7-a-side, if not, we can go up to 8-a-side. We have time to discuss these considerations further. ....

.... A lot of players are either still injured or busy at work. Rather than risk being overstretched, I will cancel the Wednesday game and switch the Thursday game to Khalsa. ....
