Thanks Azmi. Anyone can add their comments in the meantime.
yup, we took it to the test; & with 20 eager chaps signed up, the administrator didnt want to dissapoint - a 4 team event took place ........n the competitive juices were again tested to the FULL......ouch
The usual confusion n complains of late players prevailed as the games kicked off over 2 small pitches.....
From the Blues' perspective, we started hot n fast against Blacks but inability to defend a lead took its toll as Blacks won by 1; somehow, we did it again against the REDs but with shooters PK n Timmy, n the menacing G around, meant another defeat by 2. With a sigh of relief we faced fellow pensioners Whites but alas, they still played competitively as we were swayed by Jye's cunning "lets take it easy talk" .....lost our final game 1-3 ( prize fr anyone who can guess our complete scores + info below)
After the game, there were many exhausted bodies but smiling faces from another good workout.
Bloody Hot day it was!! I also liked the forced pace that these mini tournaments bring out..dunno about you guys I was knackered by the 2nd match
Blacks started off well and we won our first match against the eventual winners - Blue team. Elvin, Alan and Albert showed their team understanding and played fluidly despite good tackling by Blues especially in the middle of the pitch. Kit did well to blend in and was soon in the right places at the right time.
Although we started strongly against the Whites in the 2nd match, we soon squandered our lead and lost eventually to a deluge of goals later in that one. It appears that our lack of match fitness was the main culprit with a visible drop in energy which translated in to loose passes and lost possession which the Whites exploited well.
The final match was another Up and Down game. Reds took the lead with some thuderous shooting from Timmy and Poh Keng, the usual suspects....but we levelled at 3-3 which was the turning point. After that, all the wind just left Black's sails and we lost 6-4 in the end. I think it was Elwin's individual dribbling and tenacious forward runs which earned us our first 3 goals. But after I failed to level at 4-3 missing an easy 1 on 1 and skied the shot, Reds went on a rampage and the scoreline wldv been more had it not been for our new found GoalKeeper of the Year,.......ALBERT!! Who literally plucked one of Poh Keng's rocket right out of the air without even flinching and made some very acrobatic saves...haha...
Anyways, mini-tournaments are always FUN FUN FUN....meeting different teams and opponents with differing styles of play, strengths and weaknesses makes it very interesting and seeing if your own team can change its style of play and adopt to the opposition is kinda kewl as well....
In all three games, the reds were behind until the last 5 mins b4 emerging as late winners- football is played till the final whistle and kudos to Peter and Yip Weng who have not played regularly but gave their best shot and endured our tyranny. Every single game was played with such intensity as if it was winner takes all match. There were no easy matches and despite that, the games were played in good spirits... Hope to play in such a tournament in the future. cheers guys.
