White: Jeff S, Justin, Jamie, Bryan, Hail, Melvin Au, Clarence Lin
Red: Rai, John Sng, Ben Y, Azmi, Kenji, Kenny Aw, Chen Hong
This was meant to be the audition for the wild card spots for the upcoming 'challenge' against the Turfies as some old & yet new faces showed up out of the blue to vie for the limited places. Rai threw in a free pass to prawning if anyone could hit the ball into the un-repaired holes above the goal.
Both sides looked even on paper & it sure started out that way. Jeff & Rai as team captains both started out in goal to direct the proceedings.
Reds have the benefit of at least Man U players fresh from the recent 3-3 come back & one No. 10 did inspire to score the 1st goal from a tightest of all angles from the left of the D.
The score stayed that way & soon the captains came out to play. After doing the usual ball tricks like tripping over his skirt-pants & trying for the Aussie rule goal; Jeff - true to form inspired the Whites & attacked in waves. The Reds with John marshaling the defense couldn't keep up as the Reds used the flanks well with Melvin & Kenny exchanging 4-5 touches & then putting the ball into the net several times.
Whites took over the play completely with Justin bulldozing his way easily into the Reds' D & it was easily 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 6-1 before Reds pulled 1 back. The Whites put in another goal before Capt. Rai began to give hair-dryer treatment to his defense, namely myself & John & soon the clogs begin to tick with Azmi & Ben feeding the Man U forwards.
Somehow the Reds put on a inspiring fightback from 4-7 to eventually tie the game at 7-7. The last goal deserved mention as the ESPN play of the day as Jeff demonstrated after the game : it was a 50/50 ball inside the Whites D - somehow ball slid down John's entire body & all he needed to do was to stick his leg out & guide the ball into the net. I need to put on record that Jeff was the goalie & he didnt want to dirty his skirt-pants so he didnt make a dive for it.
Game was played in excellent spirit & as per ritual the boys stayed behind for a 30 min pep talk as Justin puffed on his cigarette.
