Varun SMSed me shortly after 9 pm to say he and Ashish were held up, and couldn't make it. Alex, Andrew and Hail were also late, so I went in goal for Whites (wearing slippers) as we started 5-v-5. Alex and Andrew arrived shortly after, so Andrew switched to Whites. Hail arrived a few minutes later, so it ended up 6-a-side:
Whites: Justin, Stephen C, Dave H, Chen Hong, Hail, Andrew B
Reds: Stephen Tan, Kelvin Au, Babs, Glenn F, Alex F, Poh Keng
It took a while to open the scoring, with Babs finding the top left hand corner with a well struck shot over me from an acute angle on the right side of the Whites' D.
I watched the game up to 9.45 pm. It was a good game.
Whites levelled through well worked move finished off by Dave H. Reds went close a couple of times, but Whites should have taken the lead when Stephen C shot over from close range after another well worked move.
Reds regained the lead through a long range pile driver from Poh Keng. However, Whites continued to pass the ball well, and levelled again when Justin got on the end of another good move.
2-2 when I left. I understand the game continued until 10.10 pm, another 25 minutes.
Andrew was influential in the centre of the pitch for Whites, linking up play well between defence and attack, and between the two flanks. However, Andrew doesn't do much off the ball running, so that was left to the rest of Whites, including Chen Hong.
The original line ups would have had an similar number of runners and passers on both sides. However, without Varun and Ashish on Whites, and Andrew switching over, Reds had more runners, and Whites more passers, so more a contrast in styles. Interesting to watch.
I've now given an indication of how the game went, but the $2 is still up for grabs, as I didn't play.
