From the report thread for the game last Saturday (23 August 2014): Putting Beer sponsor so I can keep tabs, was myself this week. The better way might be to add the names to this thread each week, in the same way players add their names for each game, so that the record is in one place. If you would like me to rename this thread, let me know. The alternative is for Babs to start a new thread.

The beers continued for a few weeks in 2014, but it went quiet from about the end of the year. Babs re-started it last Saturday (28 March 2015) and we had it again yesterday (4 March 2015). For 28 March 2015, Babs provided the beers but Christian paid for it. Christian had previously pointed out that as he cycles to games, he can't carry the beer. Various methods were suggested at that time. I'm not sure how Babs keeps track of how many times each person has been "beer sponsor". I've suggested this thread be used to keep track, but so far, it's only been used sporadically.

With Babs only having played 9 games since April 2015, including several on Sunday, the Saturday "beer sponsor" scheme has only been applied a couple or handful of times over that period. Now, with the haze, we have the Desmond/Christian option: .... Christian added on the group chat for today's game: It was actually on the WhatsApp group chat for the game two weeks ago (Saturday, 19 September 2015), when Desmond said: .... I can modify the policy as follows: - ....
- There is nothing to stop players from meeting up for a drink, whether the game is cancelled earlier or later.

From the "The social dimension, and fun" thread: .... Going back to the game on 24 Aug 2019, after other withdrawals, only Arijit lost a place due to the priority rules, to Damian. As messaged by Raj on the WhatsApp group chat at 1.46 pm on Saturday (24 Aug 2019): And earlier on the schedule thread: .... Arijit has been with us for so many years and seeing him down to reserves doesn’t makes sense . .... Arijit may well be a dedicated participant in Babs's beer sponsor scheme, but it was never his "place" in the game to begin with. And the fact of the matter is that the beer sponsor scheme should not interfere with the GIFFA system, not vice versa! Even if, for whatever reason, a regular player does not get a confirmed place, he can still come and watch the game, and join in the after-game beers. He can even do a non-playing report, for which there is a $1 credit, and for which I am prepared to consider giving priority for the following week's game. .... As far as I am conccerned, the Babs's bear sponsor scheme is OPSAGE, not part of the GIFFA system. As is clear, including from this thread (in particular, the reluctance to use this thread to provide for or develop a more equitable system), Babs's beer sponsor scheme is a private matter between a few Saturday regulars. I have re-named this thread from "Babsy's Saturday Beer Buds" to "Babs's beer sponsor scheme" to reflect the more serious discussion of the issues that arise, and how it might impact (whether positively or negatively) on our primary routine games.
