4 way tie for the 2 team selectors. I think we should go with the 2 of the 4 who play most regularly on Sunday - Damian and Wing Kong, who also happen to be the first 2 to put their names down this week. .... Lineups as follows: Reds: Wing Kong, Andrew, Tim T, Kenny, Azmi, Kai, Matthias n Fergus Whites: Damian, Elvin, Ganesh, Brendan, Shaiful, Jeff, Rajiv & Foo Cheong My first impression was youth (Reds) v the elderly (whites). Wing Kong and Andrew were the average age of Whites, while everyone else on Reds was younger than everyone on Whites (other than Brendan). It was fairly even, with the first goal taking a while to come. Twice Reds took the lead, twice Whites levelled, to leave the score at 2-2 with time running out. After equalising for the second time, Whites pushed for the win, which I thought wasn't wise, with our older legs. Reds scored 2 late on to win 4-2. Reds' third was controversial, with Fergus, who had the shot, saying it hit the inside of the frame before bouncing out, while Damian, the closest defender, saying it hit the post. Anyway, it was given. The fourth was the final kick of the game. Remarkably, I didn't spend any time in goal. And I thought Thursday was tough! .... ... I didn't have my customary 10 to 15 minutes in goal. .... Matthias had a good debut, scoring a couple of good goals. $2 credit to each of Damian and Wing Kong as team selectors. Add any other comments below.

Whites started with Ganesh (Centerback), Brendan (Ctr mid) and Elvin (CS) straight line. On hindsight, it may have been better to have started with Ganesh playing further up front with Brendan and Elvin as that proved more effective mid way during the game. Though Reds had a couple of new players, they made up for it with alacrity and agility. Fergus was super quick and made many a darting runs down the left flank and Matthias and Kai had a "teutonic connection" and both were also very lively in the mid and attacking areas. While the "old" guard, Kong, Andrew, Azmi and Kenny kept the shackles on Elvin and any White attack. We had our own livewire with Brendan covering all parts of the pitch in attack and defence and making very significant interceptions, blocks and tackles!! Ganesh scored the first equaliser for Whites and immediately went into goal (i noticed that this is becoming habitual with Ganesh recently ) After an audacious shot from outside the penalty area, straight through myself and another white player down the center into goal by Wing Kong, Reds went up 2 - 1, it took a solo effort from Elvin and his trademark, cut inside and shoot move to equalise again. Although I agree with Jiv that at this stage, perhaps it wasn't the wisest thing to do given that Whites were out of stamina as c/f with the Reds, I think it was a good positive mentality which had us on the attack looking for the winner with 10 mins to go. We could have consolidated and played defensive but kudos to the "winning mentality" of the older folk We actually had more penetration with Jiv playing on the wings instead of in defence and after awhile, Jeff drifted from right wing to a more central attacking role as well. Funny personal experience for me as when Elvin went into goal, i took over his position as striker?? What gives? Heheh but fun nonetheless. Final word, while youth does have the most obvious advantages, it seems that in the match-ups between oldies vs young un's the result is always not that wide! Encouraging for us oldies and aging "once young" ones! ;0
