Whites: Fred (c), Gerard, Wing Kong, Ganesh, Foo Cheong, Fergus, Jamie McFarlane, Nordin Reds: Lynz (c), Eddie Guo, David237, Jason B, Kodaka, Azmi, Tim T, Yaseen
Interesting pot luck. There was the young (David237) and the old, the debutants and the veterans, and the slim and the big ;D. I believe David is son of Eddie?
Azmi was 10 minutes late. Whites took advantage and had most of the possession during this time and scored first through Fred, although Lynz had before that called for a shirt-pulling foul on him by Ganesh. Strangely this was not strongly contested by Reds. Holiday spirit?
Whites went 3 - 0 up before Reds pulled one back through Yaseen.
Reds had more of the play as the game went on. There were a few saves made by Whites' keeper and a couple of shots hit the bar/post.
Whites were rather hurried when they had the ball. Kept charging forward rather than going sideways or back. Possession should be the game plan when the team is ahead and under the cosh.
Whites managed to score another through Nordin to lead 4 - 1. That was the winning goal because Reds' incessant attacks finally paid off when David managed to squeeze two shots past the Whites' crowded D.
Final score 4 - 3 to Whites. One could argue that the score should be 3 - 3 after taking away the first goal (when Reds was one man short and there was a call for a foul).
$2 credit to Foo Cheong for a first report. $1 credit to each of Lynz and Fred as team captains.
I think the first goal was not counted. Eddie, Reds' last man, stopped playing when the foul was called, so Whites went straight through and scored. I think Fred graciously gave the ball back to the Reds' keeper to restart with a goal kick.
Reds went 2-0 up after Azmi arrived - Fred and Nordin the scorers. Whites were looking stronger and more in the early stages. I saw Yaseen pull one back before I left. I think the game had already started to turn by then. Once the newer players had settled down, Reds probably had the better balance between attack and defence.
I believe David is a family friend, not Eddie's son.
Don't know what happened the 1st 10 mins. But If the 1st goal counted when I was keeping then it should be 4-3 to whites. Fred scored that, then Nordin, Yaseen scored for reds, ball bounced off from my thigh for own goal, Fergus scored, David scored the last 2.
An entertaining game with quite a number of new players. Whites were quick off the blocks with Fred, Fergus and Nordin spearheading the attack. Fred was sporting enough to accept a no-goal in the early moments due to a Whites foul. They soon took a 2 goal lead while Reds were trying to settle and finding it tough to penetrate Whites defense with Kong and Gerard. However, Reds then pushed Yaseen upfront and supported by Kodaka and little David, started to create chances. Reds had numerous shots on target but great goalkeeping by Gerard and Ganesh prevented any goals. Whites countered and soon was 4-1 up. However, Reds continued to press with Tim T working tirelessly to support the attack. 2 goals by David brought Reds back close at 4-3. Reds had momentum but time ran out. Every White worked their socks off ... Eddie and Azmi was steady in defence, good debut by Jason B as well and a special mention to David ,probably one of the youngest [next to Eddie and Nordin... ...] and smallest on the pitch but showed a lot of tenacity in his running and was rewarded with his goals.
Much appreciation to captains Desmond, Lynz and Elvin for having me on their teams in my couple of weeks back in Singapore. Though I think I depart with a losing record, there was good football and great fun. Look forward to my next visit! Many thanks Rajiv! Trust I can keep my $5 credit until next time! If any of you GIFFA lot show up in NYC, drop me a line and I'll try to fit you in for some Big Apple footie! Cheers!
