Team selectors are Babs and Lynz. Kien has requested on the WhatsApp group chat that Melvin be on the same team as himself. Line ups to follow. Teams are: Reds: Babs, Rockstar, Xiong Wei, Kenny, Brendan, Bernard, Jason, Fergus Whites: Lynz, Jye, CH, Chen Hong, Tim.T, Kien, Melvin, Fred .... Jake ... in for Tim T. Up to team selectors if any adjustment necessary. I earlier reminded Fergus to be early. He replied "no worries". He has since messaged to say it took him 40 minutes to book a taxi, and about 7 minutes ago to say he is just arriving. Anyone who has any advice on how he can get to games on time every time, or can assist him in any way, feel free to share it with him. Add any comments about the game below.

Final score was 3-1 to the Whites. The game was once again finely poised on a knife's edge for majority of the match but in the last 20 min or so the Whites plumped in a couple of goals through sheer will power and grit to finally put the game beyond doubt.
The Reds started the game very strongly. Wing Kong was playing in place of Fergus who was late once again. The Reds had a very cohesive and experienced backline consisting of WK, Rockstar and Kenny which allowed the dynamic and mobile midfield lineup of XW, Brendan and Bernard to support Jason as the lone striker. The threats posed by the Reds attackers soon bore fruit as a poorly defended corner found Bernard alone two yards in front of goal unmarked that was put away with much glee.
The Whites midfield found it hard to get any passing rhythm perhaps due to the unfamiliarity of the players including new comer Melvin. Captain Lynz started in goal and fred dropped back to an unfamiliar midfield role as Jake started upfront as lone striker. Somehow the balance of the team wasnt quite right and passes were wayward and lacked penetration.
Turning point in the game was probably when Wk switched out for Fergus and the Whites re-gigged their formation. Lynz coming back into a centre midfield role, jake pushing up into right wing and Kien into left wing; with Melvin and Fred rotating as centre forwards gave the Whites a lot more edge going forward. The absence of WK in defence also started to expose some weakness in the Whites defence and applied more stress on the usually rock steady ROckstar. The WHites equaliser came when a sublime through pass in the middle of the park from Lynz split the entire WHites defence which had fallen asleep and left Fred to toe poke in form close range. Score was tied at 1-1.
Galvanised by the goal, the tide began to turn in favour of the Whites. Jake delivered a wicked whipping cross from a kick in on the right side and goal poacher extraordinaire, Kien rose majestically to direct the ball into the top corner leaving the GK helpless as the Whites snatched the lead. The Reds began to rely heavily on long ball tactics and hoping that the dangerous and mercurial Fergus could convert them into goals. However, Jye and Chen Hong combined very well to shut him out of the match. The Whites were let off the hook though when a shot from Brendan rebounded off the right post of the keeper and landed right in front of XW who was alone with the goal at his mercy but he somehow contrived to skew the ball away from goal and safely out of the touchline.
As the Reds were pushing for an equaliser, the Whites launched a beautiful fluid move down the right with Jake and ended up with Fred sending a low hard cross for Lynz to finish high into the the Red's goal. With a two goal lead to overcome and seconds remaining, the wind was taken out from the sails of the Reds.
I do not mean it to be critical or offensive but I think i speak for all the aficionados of the Sat games that persistent and regular late attendance for the match does affect the enjoyment of the match for everyone involved. It is not rocket science advice but sensible time management and planning ahead for the day should allow one to be able to arrive on time for the 5 pm kick off. Perhaps try to get a lift from someone driving or taxi pool with a friend might also be helpful.
Just my two cents worth.... no harm intended. Cheers!

$2 credit to CH for a first report. $3 credit to each of Lynz and Babs as team selectors.

More on latecoming on the Discussion board. Small consolation but: .... Being significantly late (or a no show) is even worse if the player concerned deprived another player of a place. For yesterday, unusually, there was no one on the waitlist, so at least no one else was deprived of a place. .... In fact, when we were one player short yesterday afternoon, I just about got a replacement, despite asking around quite widely.

Gents, massive apologies for being late on Saturday. Appreciate it mucks up the flow of the game as usually it takes the first 20 mins for teams to get settled in for pick up games even where there are lots of regulars. Have taken it on board, need to be leaving at 4pm for these games in future given how bad Sat afternoons are.
