Dave H earlier volunteered himself and Dilesh as captains on WhatsApp. I'll stick with longer term regulars as captains, but I'll put Dave H and Dilesh on opposing sides as they seem keen to play against each other. I suggest:
Team 1: Dilesh, Ian, Chris M, Reza, Dave K Team 2: Dave H, Sivaraj, Philip S, Joel C, Robbie
The oldest regular on each team can be captain. That would be Dave K and Robbie.
Reds: Dilesh, Ian, Chris M, Reza, Dave K (c) Whites: Dave H, Sivaraj, Philip S, Joel C, Robbie (c)
Rajiv's observation was right: both teams did indeed cancel each other out for the first 5 minutes and this pattern continued when after 15 minutes they were locked at 2-2.
On the balance of play, Reds were doing more attacking while Whites were content to soak up the pressure with some stout defending and play on the counter. Eventually, however, Reds made their pressure count and found themselves leading 5-2 and then 10-6 with 10 minutes to go (this was after a litany of extraordinary misses from Reds coupled with amazing clearances from Whites) . Thinking the game was all but over, complacency set in and Whites notched 3 quick goals to make for a tense finish, with Reds eventually edging it 12-10.
Responsible match reporting dictates that I cannot omit the fact that while the match was generally played in good spirits, tempers did fray in the final 10 minutes with some meaty challenges going in and this led to a bit of a fracas. However, good sense soon prevailed and it was good to see hands being shaken all round at the end. No doubt it will all be forgotten when we start again next week.
As a party involved in the fracas, let me apologise first to anybody who was offended by what I said to the member of the opposing team. I do however take exception to the comment made that night, that for a foul to be made there has to be intent. I also take offence to the fact that a somebody who wasnt involved in the tackle itself said that I went down too easy. Firstly, there does not need to be intent to foul somebody for it to be a foul. You could genuinely be going for the ball and trip, kick or elbow somebody. Secondly, if a call for a foul is made, respect the call. Comments like, "i think you went down too easy" will only aggrevate somebody and doesnt help the situation. Only my 2 pennies worth, and of course happy to discuss further.
