The PSI was hovering at 150 but 10 die hard players turned up for a 5x5 game on the small pitch. This was my first game back from more than 6 months and I understand that it was Jamie's friends' first time with us. Welcome guys.
It was end to end stuff; I've forgotten how the quick pace and constant running really saps your energy. I was often left catching my breath as goalie, letting the younger ones do all the running. Reds linked up very well, passed very well and traded positions seamlessly. Exploiting the Whites high line, Reds punished with several quick counter attacks which left their keeper hapless.
Whites played intelligently, using the strength of their wings and kept the Red's defense really busy. However, their heavy dependance on 1 or 2 players for creativity often choked them in making mistakes. Whites keepers made sure that it was not a one sided affair by blocking quite a few point blank shots.
I think playing 5x5 is more tiring than 7x7 and I was all out of gas by 10pm. A really good game considering having new players and an old veteran's first outing. At the end, Reds edged out the Whites by the odd 2 or 3 goals.
