It was another good game today as both teams were almost neck-in-neck for the entire game. Neither team led by >2 goals and the lead changed hands at least 4x, if I counted correctly.
The Au brothers were at their usual best, dictating play in midfield/attack with Glenn while Rai marshals the defence with Shawn & yours truly while Bryan start in goal. Sufian started in a deep defensive midfield role with Gilbert in defence + wing backs Boon & Chris supporting Javier n Marko in midfield / attack for the Reds.
Both teams preferred playing with ball on deck, with the occasional long pass from defence catching the defence off-guard. Whites were off to a quick start as Shawn got two quick goals to give Whites a 3-1 lead. Reds would soon equalize after some slack defending by Whites before they went 5-4 (or 6-4) up. The goals continued to flow due to a combination of good attacking play & slack defending by both teams, including a comical own goal by Whites late in the game.
There were some mistimed tackles, though none were malicious, which almost led to a flashpoint but common sense prevailed in the end as the game ended 12-12 or something..
Special mention for newcomers Shawn, for his tireless running & Javier, for his nifty footwork. I can see they are slowly getting used to the pace of our game. Welcome to GIFFA folks! Looking forward to more MOM moments from you!
I give Bryan full marks for always being a sporting player.
Whites were a lot faster on the ball especially on counter attacks, partly due to the fact that the older players were on Reds. Fortunately Reds had Sufian (what's new) to make up for the slack and Gilbert had an outstanding game as last man thwarting many White attacks.
Whites would probably have won by the margin but for several cheeky goals scored by Marko. Most of Whites goals were good goals, with Rai banging in some good shots and a spot on header by Jamie from a corner kick.
Another enjoyable game.
