We started a little late and ended about 15 mins past 6pm. Score was 6-4 to the White team. Interesting to note that at 6pm, Whites were still 5-1 up and in the space of the short 15 mins OT, Reds launched a very impressive comeback to make it 5-4 but Whites prevailed for it to end at 6-4.
Coincidentally, this was somewhat reminiscent of the game last week where there was a strong comeback challenge by the opposing team.....
For White team, we had a few notable contributions:-
1. Rainer - with his magical touch, scoring the first 3 or was it 4 goals for White team; 2. Lynz - for his excellent leadership ensuring that the team kept its shape and composure; and 3. Brendan - for his sustained efforts in running after everyball in midfield and not giving the formidable Red midfield time to play the ball...read Raminder...
4. Couple of soft goals including own goals as a result of miscommunication between Red goalie and defenders
On the other side, credit to Dilesh and Babs for refusing to accept defeat and instead of slumping their shoulders, they rose to the occasion in unison and spearheaded the come back. Another note of interest was the change in a setpiece strategy from Reds which brought them 2 of the 3 goals they scored in extra time......David had a good return to Giffa cutting out many of Rainer's threatening moves.
The setpiece strategy off corners was started by Dilesh by hitting the corner straight and hard across the goal mouth....anyone standing in the way (whether on the same team or opposing team) would deflect the ball straight in...this worked! The first time with Tan Wee (or was it babs) coming in the striking it deep into goal and in the second corner, the ball ricochet'd off first Kong and then Lynz into the goal.
Fatigue took its toll on White team with even the likes of Rainer needing to go into goal for a breather. I have never seen Rainer breathless before so this was a first for me Reds on the other hand, started looking fresher as the we entered OT, Babs, Dilesh, Fred and Raminder were all starting to find a 2nd wind and they suddenly had a fresh spring in their legs. This made very difficult for Whites to defend against especially since we were starting to be pulled out of position everytime Reds counterattacked.
Another good game to start the week with. Looking forward to the next.
