I thought last week's game was a good come back, but today's was more unexpected. Reds went down 3 goals, looked to be down and out but a great come back saw them overran whites and winning 7-4 or was it 6-4. LL should have a more detailed reports, anyone can add in as well.
REDS : Raj, Raminder, CH, Anthony, Azmi, LL, Wing Kong, Andrew Y
A huge fightback sees REDs win an intriguing game ...
WHITES had a 1 goal lead in the 10th min and controlled the game well, driving n frustrating the REDS with German-like possesion passing. When they noticed the REDS' dozing off, they quickly slotted in another 2 for a 3-0 lead with perhaps just 20 min to go.....the Bookies had prepared the deposit slips, chilling the champagne, giving 3 cts to the dollar for a WHITES win and 33x payout for a REDS win....6 imaginary fans made their way out of the stands.....n, n it happened. The REDS swung Plan B into action, since there wasnt much of a Plan A....
The REDS pulled 2 back within a few minutes and the entire game tempo changed. Elvin shot the WHITES ahead again with a ferocious top corner stinger for a 4-2 lead but with nostrils flared, REDS' stepped it up and with Raj up in attack with debutant Raminder fitting in well, rained in shots. CH continued to be free on the left side, with Wing Kong n Andrew continually pushing forward, the REDS' goals started coming in.
REDs won 7-4 after a 5 min extra time play....and the Bookies were left to auction off their chilled champagne to raise cash for the angry mob......the comeback was memorable, particularly for the REDS..
Raj, LL, Elvin grabbed double goals n on REDs' end, Andrew, CH and Raminder grabbed 1 each...sweet
This only goes to show that in Soccer the ball is really round. Halfway into the game, I thought that we had the game wrapped up. We were up 3-0 and were very comfortable with a settled White set. The attack and possession was well coordinated with the trio Elvin, Alan and Albert's passing game working well. Sagnik was like an impenetrable wall in Goal with nothing going in.
Then.....everything CHANGED! Reds made a good tactical change, moving Raj from defence to attack thereby creating a foil for Raminder to control the midfield. As a result of this, the whole dynamics changed and suddenly there was open space for CH on the left who crept in several times totally unmarked and Kong playing a Steven Gerard role. It didn't help that the change in tactical play by Reds coincided with the Whites team losing steam or getting visibly tired.
It was surprising that at one stage, we had no one in the opponents half and we were all camped in our own half....defending!
But kudos to our players who kept plugging away, Elvin our creator and also scorer, Sagnik our goal saviour, Edmund and Stephen who contributed in a big way in keeping the score down and not forgetting Erik who provided good thrust in our attacks.
On Red's side, my MOM was Look Liew!! Kept many goals out with some acrobatic saves in the first half and then was suddenly full of energy in creeping forward and scoring a couple while harrassing our defenders who had possession. Also credit to Raj and Azmi for controlling the game and CH's really energetic runs and Raminder's ability to hold in mid and distribute to waiting unmarked players in the box.
