Earlier, Brendan requested White, Dilesh, Red, and Dom Red. I can't accommodate all the requests, so I'll accommodate the earlier ones first. No other comments, so line ups, captains and colours confirmed as follows:
Reds: Gerard (c), Wing Kong, Damian Y, Jesse, Jon Stratton, Dilesh, Richard Clement, Wei Kee Whites: Foo Cheong, Tim T, Martijn, Kelvin Au, Melvin Au, Shaiful, Dom F, Brendan (c)
Everyone, please be early.
Whites started much the stronger, going close on several occasions. However, against the run of play, Reds took the lead through a crisp finish from Jesse.
Whites came more into the game, but Reds continued to have the edge, and levelled at 1-1.
Whites continued to defend stoutly, and made the most of their chances at the other end, going 2-1, then 3-1 ahead.
Reds pulled one back to 2-3 shortly before I left, at about 5.40 pm.
The final score was 6-4 to Reds. After Jiv left, Whites started attacking more by pushing Martijn further up and the brothers Kelvin and Melvin started combining really well in mid. I really thought that the Whites would dominate but credit to Reds who played to their strengths with Jesse, my MOM, who proved to be really solid both in defence and outfield as well and ended scoring the first 2 Red goals. This set Reds up nicely to have more possession on the ball.
The White resurgence kept up and the Foo Cheong scored a really nice goal from the right wing when all Red defenders were occupied with the marauding White midfield.....it was really close and White edged upto 4-5 in the last 5 mins of the game with the attacking players sensing a draw in place. Fortunately for Reds, with Whites up in numbers, Richard scored scrambled goal in the final minutes and Reds breathed a sigh of relief emerging as winners for a hard fought 6-4 victory.
Forgot to mention Jon who though 5 mins late had a cracker of a game with a goal to his credit as well....he played really well and was a robust presence on the right wing and midfield. The other 2 goals were scored by our fox in the box, Gerard who has this uncanny ability to drift into dangerous positions unmarked......nice header too!!
