It was a very enjoyable match played in really good spirits.
Whites played collectively as a team with everyone putting in a good effort. This allowed Whites to pressure Reds who found it hard to penetrate Whites half and put attacks together. When they did, Wing Kong and the solid defence had a foot to the ball. Jason and Lee were solid on the right while the energy of young Darren and Zach on the left gave the Whites plenty of opportunities to combine. Still, it was a pretty close game and it stayed zero - zero for a long time. Finally, Darren broke the deadlock with a long-distance shot and I finally succeeded (after 3 years of trying) to tip in straight from Gerard's well-timed corner. Fred did not get too much of the ball, but being as lethal as he is, put in a slow cross from the left which somehow rolled in. 2-1. It remained 2-1 for a long time and Dilesh, who played left back, came forward more and more putting more pressure on the Whites. Kharti had a few good dribbles, but luckily we now know him a little bit and Wing-Kong was waiting for the inevitable move inside. It seemed like it might go either way at that time, but Red's pressing strategy also gave the Whites more space when they had the ball. Darren had some great runs and we also passed the ball along nicely. Gerard poked in a goal, but Fred made another goal in a clutch situation. Jason showed strong determination to hold on to the ball when receiving it upfront. Instead of shooting, he passed it to Gerard who had a free tap-in. From that moment on, the Whites created more and more chances, I think Lee, Jason and Gerard had a few good ones - but we could not finish. Darren settled the score at 5-2 with a nice first-touch shot. As I mentioned, the collective effort was the most rewarding. Hopefully another nice game next week.
