Since no one else felt inspired to write the match report I figured I would volunteer and give it a shot.
Final score was 5-3 to Reds I think, or something along those lines. It was well-deserved by Reds, with Damian/Brendan/Fred controlling the game and creating several good chances. Reds raced into a 2-0 lead within the first 15 min, helped by several crisp passing moves and solid finishing by Fred, including a thuderous near-post shot into the top-corner
Whites were fairly disjointed in posession, and struggled to find fluency and rhythm. We were not able to hold onto posession convincingly at the back, and found it hard to be incisive in the attacking half. We were however given a lucky break when a poor clearance from the Reds defence ricocheted off either Nick/Kien and bounced straight into the goal. Definitely something that belongs to the blooper-of-the-month highlight reel.
But Whites were unable to take advantage of the lucky break, and Reds continued to apply constant pressure on the Whites defence. Whites was unable to find an attacking outlet, and often resorted to long balls that were not causing much problems. Fred was making his usuall off the ball runs and got free a few times, and Whites stayed alive only through several last-ditch tackles and saves. Eventually though the pressure from the Reds resulted in another 2 goals I think which lead to a 4-1 scoreline.
Whites then tried to mount a last-ditch effort to claw back the deficit, and eventually managed to salvage some pride with a couple of consolation goals. This was done by pushing Nick up to the striker position, and having Des play a Franz Beckenbauer role where he was joining the attack with alarming regularity. The third goal in particular was quite satisfying - a long searching ball from the right back position from Timmy found Nick, who had peeled away from his marker, and was able to plant his header into the net with aplomb.
Whites continued to push hard, and even waved off the attempts of the staff who wanted us to stop playing. The game was ended however when Damian picked up a lose ball in midfield, was given the space to advance on goal, and made no mistake with a "tonjo" finish that busted the net even before the Whites keeper had a chance to react.
Final score was 5-3 to Reds I think. Well-deserved on a day when the Whites team lacked cohesion and fluency.
On a side note, I think that captains and team-mates should try to encourage each other more instead of "shouting" at each other. From what I can see, most players respond better to encouragment rather than criticism, and it'll be good for the spirit of the Saturday game if we try to do more of that. Guys like Lynz and Dilesh I find tend to be pretty encouraging (of their own team mates), and I try to do so as well - so maybe something for everyone else to consider too!
