Red: Desmond, Lynz, Arijit, Jason Barker, Fred, Richard Coomes, Foo Cheong, Tim T Whites: Brendan, Babs, Dilesh, Xiong Wei, Dom F, Gerard N, Kien, Nick C
Whites started with 7 as Dilesh was late lugging the beer to Turf City. Reds were caught cold as Kien's shot went through 3 legs and 1 skirt. Gerard was unmarked and scored two, the first a header at the far post.
Reds' organisation got a bit better and scored two through Fred and got an equaliser from Desmond.
Still plenty of time and lots to play for. Play moved rapidly from end to end: Reds goalie Arijit decided to cut out all the tiki-taka from defence and midfield, and tried to find the strikers with his long throws. Whites counter-attacked when they regain possession. And got the winner from one of these attacks, through Gerard.
Reds were doing their best not to hurt Babs but he went down when he tried to do an overhead kick under challenge from Tim T. But that was in his own D so his ruse for a penalty failed. Dilesh picked up a knock, and Lynz a more serious one that ended the game about 15 minutes past 6.
Hi Martijn, it was good to be back albeit for just the one game! Sure it would be great if you can come watch, I will put you down for one ticket and have you on the Giffa table with the likes of Rainer, Fred, Arjit, Des & hopefully a few others.
As for the game it was good to see the closeness of Sat'day games hasn't gone in the month I've been gone, a close 4-3 win for the Whites. Whites went 3-0 up and were really dominating and creating chances at the start. Slowly Reds warmed to the task and once they got that 1st goal through Fred they then dominated the middle spell & launched a great comeback with further goals from Fred and Des (who has now scored in each of my last 2 games) to tie the game at 3-3. Both teams went end to end for a while with the game finely poised. For Whites it was tricky as I had to readjust the game plan given Dilesh's unfortunate ankle injury and subsequently having to go in goal for rest of the game. My right calf was cramping up but ultimately it was the left calf to actually cramp when attempting the overhead clearance. Major pain & thanks to Dom to who was on hand to help me stretch it out. Me & Dilesh swapped turns in goal a few times but neither could run properly. Gerard eventually completed his hat-trick & whites sneaked a 4-3 win. Reds pushed again and unfortunately Lynz picked up a painful knock on his knee after a clash with Kien. The game ended there with both sides now having injured players. Hopefully all are Ok.
Dilesh bought the beers for his farewell send off, I drank 100 plus as I watched the lads consume 27 cans, good banter after as me, Dom, Dilesh, Brenna, Fred, Arjit & Lynz stayed behind till nearly 8:30pm.
Thx to Nick C for coming in late although I heard he had consumed 3 glasses on red wine by the time he had accepted the late call up. Hopefully he still enjoyed the sweet sweet action that was on display and his bit of skirt that he bought along also enjoyed seeing Nick in action!
With Ade pulling out and Nick coming in late (I only found out pitch side 10 mins before the game) had to readjust the playing positions. Thankfully we had Xiong Wei's versatility on the books for this week and he was incredible, even more so without his glasses one! Definitely my man of the match!
See you guys in a few months after my boxing and all the best Dilbag!
