I've removed the earlier proposed line ups and suggest those who play at Khalsa against those who don't play at Khalsa.
It's been a long time since Brendan, Shaiful or Elvin have played at Khalsa, and although Jason has never played at Khalsa, he was introduced to me by the Premier Pitch @ Khalsa. Someone has to switch over to make up the numbers, so I guess it will have to be the one who played their most when he did, which would be Brendan.
The player on each team with the most number of games in the current 6 month period can be captain. That would be Gerard for Team 1 (33 games) and Damian (22 games) for Team 2.
The match began with total White domination and they were up 2 goals to zero with superb movement and Martijn running in from deep mid unmarked to score the 2nd one. Gerard uncharacteristically missed a couple he would normally have converted with ease and Whites could have been easily up by much more.
Red team depended totally on Elvin upfront who though still no 100% fit, duly obliged and leveled the score at 2-2. Reds then had a couple of good moves and it became 4-2 to Reds and then Whites quickly struck back at 4-3. At this stage it was a really close match as Whites were attacking in force for the equaliser with Derian and even Leon and Xiaoliang coming back up into attack as well.
Fortunately for Red team, we reshuffled the defence a bit with Art (the new comer who was playing with leather work shoes, dont ask me why ) moving up to attack from left back position disrupting a lot of the midfield dominance by Brendan and Martijn. Richard was also the playmaker moving the ball all around the pitch with Jason a constant physical presence on the right wing. The back 3 of Shaiful, Tan Wee and Danny held firm with Danny being my MoTM!! Danny was awesome yesterday making many vital interceptions but also contributing much to the attacking piece combining well with Jason and providing a vital assist for one of Elvin's goals!
Somehow Whites seemed to whither in the latter stages and the match ended at 8-3 to Reds favor on a very hot afternoon.....
Yesterday was a match of two halves. Whites started well, had more possession (obviously for the first 10 minutes when Reds played with 7) but also afterwards. We created quite a number of (half) chances with good passing by Eddie from the back to me or Brendan who in turn found Derian or Gerard to create one-on-one situations. Whites went up 2-0 and probably could have led by more. Then Elvin got really involved at the Reds, making one or two goals from nowhere (with his trademark control, half turn and shoot). Whites did continue to create some chances but could not convert and started to fall behind, leading to 4-2. While Whites got back to 4-3 with a lucky bounce, it really was the Reds dominating. I think some frustration set in at Whites as well as the team stopped fighting a little bit. Space opened up giving Richard and others much more time to combine and it ultimately ended 7 or 8 to 3. Elvin was Man of the Match, he probably scored 4 goals out of 3 chances.
Damian, our messages crossed.....I guess we share credit! Your report was better though, you are right, the tactical change in formation worked well for you guys and Danny did well. Since you mentioned that Whites' defence were playing more upfront, that reminds me how often this backfires, in particular with corners. Even yesterday, Whites took several corners with almost everyone ufront and gave away 3 full chances from the resulting counters. We were lucky that Richard hit the post a couple of times but some of the late goals were a result of this tactic. See you next week
Yeah agree with you the thing about everyone going up for corners. Though it does give more options and chances of a lucky bounce....there has to be discipline for defenders to race back to their original positions once the ball is played.
