Interesting lineup for Whites with a lot of attacking players. H/w this did not pan out the way it ought to have for Whites who were disjointed throughout the match with players looking decidedly uncomfortable in their positions.
The final score was 5-2 or 6-2 to Reds (Fred's last min goal was kind of a surprise as he was walking off when the attendant came to call time, but the players at the other end were still trying for a "last goal", so he took the counter and it was 1vs1 - nice rounding and beat Gerard who saved the first attempt - final score - 6-2.
Whites started with Jon in a very unfamiliar position as centerback, he did well nonetheless blocking out many shots while Nordin played on the right with Jake and Elvin in the centerline. The more balanced Red team were efficient in crowding out Elvin or Jake whenever they penetrated leaving them no room to pass and they could only shoot into the wall of legs which rebounded and provided Reds with a counterattacking chance.
Fergus was the main attack force for Reds with his agility and tenacity, he caused a lot of problems for White def while Jon struggled to contain Fred who seemed content to be the 1 touch relay player who fed his teams mates, Fergus and Vincent on the left wing. Vincent back after a 2 year stint abroad has lost none of his sharpness (Welcome Back Vince!) and caused me a lot of trouble down the left with his speed and movement.
Whites had a few chances with Elvin and Nordin converting. It was 3-2 at one stage and Whites seemed to have the momentum however this was suddenly snuffed out when Reds scored their 4th goal after which Whites seemed to crumble.
Thanks very much Damien! You are too kind with your comments! I am pretty stiff from the game even now but it was a lot of fun. Really glad to be back playing! Hope to see you all again this coming weekend.
