Insufficient votes for team selectors, but I think I'll go ahead and appoint team selectors anyway. Rai has 2 votes, so he can be one. Jeff and Gilbert have 1 vote each, but Gilbert has played 17 times over the current 6 month period to Jeff's 16, so I'll ask him to be selector.
The game started with the ball placed in the middle of the field, and kicked off like a 11-a-side game. Very professional. It was a closely contested game, with both sides committing their 100%. Lose balls were chased down, defenders were hassled and poachers were ready to pounce on any mistake or indecision. A highly charged game for Whites, with ball handlers Rai and Kelvin dancing with the ball and Dave distributing in the middle. Shawn with his speed constantly ghosted into areas unseen by the defense. The back line of Song, Eric and Alvin kept Whites out of trouble but was tested by a good Red offence of James and Glenn. Reds were a little weaker with the abscence of a ball handler but did well using the flanks with Neil and Philip hugging the sides. The strong prescence of Hardfiz, Jeff and myself helped to keep the scoreline decent but was punished by indiviual shortcomings and uneasy goalkeeping. Towards the end, Whites were still charging while Reds were hufifng and puffing. Whites aheah with a couple.
Very fast paced game from start to end!! Appreciation to Kelvin and Alvin (who had a good debut) so that we could have 7 v 7. I think Bert was correct, Whites did win the game by a couple of goals but take nothing away from the Reds who pushed us all the way with some resolute defending and clinical finishing by James.
As always in our game, there will be some tough & sometimes mis-timed challenges/tackles. I think everyone who plays regularly at ECP knows none of these are ill intended. But when it occurs, the best thing to do is stop play, own up and help the other player up. One more/less possession will not affect the outcome of the game. Let things cool down and then we continue with our fun. Likewise when players think they are fouled, take initiative and call for a foul ... if you don't ask, you don't get.
Lets continue our futsal fun safely for the remainder of 2013 and wish for Mr Santa Claus to do his magic and replace our "slump" with a brand new pitch and fence protection for the coming 2014.
Lastly thanks to Eric for clearing the cat poo on the pitch before the start of the game!! We have had drink cans, bottles, puke and a used condom on our pitch ... wonder what is next?!?!
