Seeing as Lynz is claiming some pocket money with match reports thought I should do the same as it's been an expensive Xmas!
This was my first game back after a few months out concentrating on the boxing so it was great to see a large nucleus of the old school Giffa crowd playing! It was also nice to be back on a football pitch than inside a boxing ring!
There were a few soft complaints about the line ups pre match but as so often is the case they proved to be ill founded! I hadn't played with Sam and Leonard before but they were solid players so both teams matched up quite well.
Fred went for a unique formation of 2-4-1 with the 2 wingers in midfield expected to drop back and help defend when without the ball. It was a unique formation and one that I think needs to be practiced a few more times before it works fluidly.
Anyhow the game was tight and despite the new formation the Reds managed to squeeze out a 1-0 victory thanks to the returning Babsy Killer K using his new found fitness and pace to get first to a loose ball and squeeze the shot home, a scrappy ugly goal but an important one in the end of the day as it decided a tight encounter. Both teams hit the woodwork a couple of times but probably just about a fair result on the balance of chances.
To celebrate returning to Saturday footy I bought the cold beers and they went down sweet..........damn I've missed this tradition!
Good to be back and see you guys after the new year.
