game started with reds having the advantage as whites were still short of one man. However, that didn't hold up for long as he sprinted across the pitch to join the forces of the purity team. Game was even now on the pitch as both 14 highly skilled players took on their rivals with their fakes, moves, and on some occasion 'Dancing styles' - as stan d cartoon would have describe it.
The devils drew the first blood after some lousy performance from Joelo as he was completely off target and off his runs, broke the deadlock to contribute to the first goal. And without a doubt, an assist from Steven Gerard (who kept advising me to keep my shot low before I took the blast). Reds were pressing deep into the whites' halves and giving a hard time as Darren, kelvin, gerard made the shadow runs. defence were held strong with the commanding cartoon of the match, stan d man and paul with his tireless run.
The Angels were not that far off either. great play and passing from the back, to the midfield and to the forwards. Yaseen was the main man to watch out for. though big and tall, his control and touches were almost magic. man of the match goes to him I think. Rai the capt was leading the defence team with gusto.
ps: Niel, I hope all's well for your knee? nothing more than a sprain/twist I hope.
can't remember the score, but when last ball was called, whites took on it almost immediately and ended the game with their celebratory goal.
prob one of the most lackluster game I played at GIFFA in a long while .. it seems like the Xmas turkeys and hams were getting to everyone and the bad pitch and ultra bouncy ball made it worse. There was hardly any fluency thro out the game as passes & shots went astray. Both teams were slugging it out with the more skillful Reds vs the more defensive Whites. Whites were leading by a goal when Neil hurt his ankle badly and had to walk off the pitch. Reds eventually equalised after numerous attempt and last goal was called which Gow duly responded with a well placed shot to the bottom left corner of the Reds goal to secure a hard earned win for the Whites. I think the score was 5-4.
Despite the tough conditions on the night, I think all 14 players put in their best effort to make the game very competitive. Special appreciation to Yassen who was very much playing on one foot as his other foot which recently underwent surgery took its toll. Still he manged to score!
Hopefully the bulk of the turkeys and hams will be flushed out of all our system soon ... before the CNY feasting comes again!
1 of the toughest game i played. Apologies if i cant do much as the pain in my left knee was too much. Made worst by terrible condition of the pitch. These guys dont maintain it well. Recipe for disaster. Stan is a real joker. Even when i dont have the ball he ask his men mark me. : ) Overall reds defence were good and held up well. Special mention to Rai whom really pushed the players and defended well. 1 thing is he risked pushing men upfront and it paid off well. I hope niel' injury is not too bad and philips also suffered a hamstring. Hope all is well. Thanks for the game guys.
