Before I stepped into my meeting, I looked at the game thread and to my amusement there weren't any pull outs and we had four players on the waitlist. Fast forward 1.5 hrs later, Rai contacted me to discussed line-ups and once that was settled, Rai reminded everyone not to be late.
Nonetheless, with no pull-outs and ben showing up on time were signs that we were in for something different. We started the game with Reds playing with 6 while red's ace striker James went to get his 100plus after his 8 to 9 am game. By the time he joined, whites were 3 goals up, with a deflected goal of ben's left ankle which wrong footed me in goal. Second goal came from the darting run of Shawn who beat the last defender to toe-poke it to the left corner. Third one ensued. All three goals were from the result of poor positional discipline from the reds, with almost everyone running all over the place and the space was exploited.
James joined the play and I moved out from keeper. We managed to settle in and pulled back the 3 goal deficit. The game was tight, played with a lot of passion. Loose balls were contested, at times, a bit tougher than the usual east coast game of the past year. The goals were traded but white at one point opened up a 5 goal lead as they took their chances from the bad positioning of the Reds keeper. Easily 4 goals were scored in the near post which the keeper should have them covered but heck, that weren't a natural position for most of us.
Reds then stepped up the game and clawed their way back by scoring the 5 goals and equalized. Game got a bit heated as reds were hustling the whites right from up top with James, Dustin and Glenn leading the charge. Reds would have got a couple of goals in front if not for Bert's heroics in front of goal as keeper or last man. At the end, it got a bit too hot to handle and parties were pulled apart to calm things down.
Last goal was called and william played a nice pass through to Rai, who used his strength to fend of Dan (not and easy feat) and scored to bring the game to an end. Final score is 12-11 to the Whites.
Been a while since we see such passion and drive in the Monday ECP games. It was a gritty affair but one of those game that you don't really care about the score but you enjoyed playing the game with everyone else. Hope to push the ECP standard back to this level.
