Whites: Ling Chong, Derian, Chern yang, Joseph, Daniel, Sean Luo, George L Reds: Steven Lim, Kien, Ziliang, Gerard, Alvin Chew, Ray Yap, Keith
Whites started off the game in a 2-3-1 formation against Reds 3-2-1.
Ling Chong was leadig the whites attack against Gerard for the Reds. Reds got the 1st goal of the game, courtesy of some disastrous goal tending from George, who allowed a seemingly harmless looking lob to go over his head.
The scoreline stood at 1-0 for the next 15 mins, while both teams exchanged cautious jabs at each other.
Whites finally got on the scoreline with a nice interchange of passes between Daniel and Derian. Daniel headed a high ball across the goal mouth for Derian to chest, knee and shoot in 1 smooth motion to tie the game up at 1 apiece.
It was all whites from that point on, with a succession of 4 goals from Sean, who was in the form of his life, as he accounted for 3 of those goals to make the score 5-1.
Reds managed to pull the scoreline back to 5-3 after some slack defending. A moment of madness nearly soured the game, with Chern Yang putting his whole body on the line to bring Gerard down twice. Luckily, Gerard was cool about it and whites even forced him to take a penalty which he gamefully accepted...and missed!
A few more exchanges before the score ended at 7-4 to whites.
I thought the scoreline didn't really reflect the flow of the game.
Reds were spirited and had a lot of movement, good off the ball running... they were unfortunate to be let down by the inability to finish off the final ball.
Whites, on the other hand, made the most of set pieces, excelled in goal-mouth melees and converted the few chances they had.
Joseph had a good debut; energetic display and fitted into the game very quickly.
Just for record purposes:
Scorers for Reds: Keith - 2 Kien - 1 (from a goal kick?) Own goal by Chern Yang
Scorers for Whites: Sean - 3 (My shot which deflected off Daniel shall be credited to him) Daniel - 1 (Deflected in shot) George - 1 (Deflected in shot) Derian - 1 (seemingly very well taken goal according to his match report.. =) Ling Chong - 1
Reds were extremely unlucky and could have won the match had we taken our chances. Ziliang and Ray were full of energy, and was running throughout the match. They were unlucky not to be rewarded with goals.
