Several new or newer players, or players who haven't played together much before at all or recently, so I'll suggest line ups after noon tomorrow. I've added the team captain poll. I've included all the Sunday Grandstand regulars (minimum 10 games in the current 6 month period and 25 games over the last 3 years) other than those who have opted out.
Three players with 1 vote each (Gerard, Paul and Isaac). Isaac can be captain for Team 1. Gerard and Paul on Team 2, so the player withmore games in the current 6 month period will be captain - Gerard with 37 games ahead of Paul with 23 games.
Foo Cheong predicted on the WhatsApp group chat a 7-1 win for Team 2, so I proposed changes, including Foo Cheong to Team 2, but Gerard thought the original was fairer, so I went back to the original and have made just one change (Paul for CH, with Isaac taking over from Paul as captain of Team 1). Gerard and Isaac are ok to go with that. Gerard requested red, so line ups, captains and colours confirmed as follows:
Whites: Wing Kong, Cedric, Foo Cheong, Chris Birnie, Isaac (c), Manish, Simon Carter, CH Reds: Gerard (c), Paul T, Richard Clement, Damian, Calvin, Vinnie, Keith, Tim T
Everyone, please be early.
After the game, please post reports and comments on the game below.
Fantastic game with everyone giving 110% till the final whistle! Good thing it was not as low scoring as the BIG game later in the day (1-0) and no extra time was needed! Whites were the obviously stronger team and dominated the midfield. With the rock steady Kong in defence and Manish, newcomer Chris and Simon in attack, Reds had a hard time keeping Whites in check. Despite Whites greater possession, it was the Reds that drew first blood and second blood, 2-0 twenty mins into the game due to a special from Vinnie who showed how the World Cup goals ought to be scored by slamming 2 of them in from the left wing. Actually, his goal tally should be 3 but I stole his last one due to a deflection off my chest
Whites quickly capitulated on stupid defensive errors on Reds side which allowed them to come back into the game. It went up to 3-3 when Whites inexplicably started missing their shots despite camping for long periods outside of Red's D. It was torture for us in the Red defence as it felt like we were being overrun and outgunned....however, fortune favours the brave and we somehow managed to keep the goals from going in, courtesy of some excellent goal-keeping from Paul....Ceasar could have learnt 1 or 2 things from him! Chris had a sterling debut with many intelligent runs and it was evident that he still possesses his striker instincts. Manish is getting harder and harder to tackle as he grows into the game and on the Reds team, both Richard and Tim showed no signs of rust after coming back from a long lay off dictating the Reds play from midfield and scoring a turn and shoot fantastic goal respectively. Keith seems to be becoming a Sun regular? (hopefully?) after the small pitches at Khalsa and Cage.....

Thought the whites played really well and should've murdered us reds. Luckily for the reds Vini had his shooting boots, Paul outstanding in goal and Damian uncompromising in defence with some decent passing to boot. Damian - not sure about showing signs of rust, but certainly showing signs of a spare tyre as a lot of the game passed me by with Simon, Chris and others playing it around me and the rest of the reds midfield. If ever there was an undeserved victory this was it ;-)!
