Due to our regular Wednesday Khalsa game being cancelled due to re-turfing, We decided to call for a challenge match with Sean coordinating with Rai to get the players.
We ended up with the GIFFA regular players, with Sean & friends vs Rai & friends.
With the players on paper, it looks to be an cracking match and we settled for East Coast as the venue.
The match started with Reds taking the initiative and took the lead shortly when Wilson found space down the left and whipped in a thumping left-footed drive. Reds were doing a good job containing the Whites and managed to further extend the lead when Derian score after a good long throw from the keeper (Daniel). Derian, showed some good control to trap the ball and hit a shot low into the corner of the net. 2-0 Reds.
Reds were soon up 3-0, with Daniel providing a inviting cross which Wilson did very well to stretch and put it into goal.
With the quality players in the Whites team, they can never be written off even when they were down 3-0, Sufian sparked the comeback with the first Whites goal before Jacko scored a soft goal which the keeper should have done better.
The equaliser came through a corner, which the Reds keeper flicked the ball into his own net. 3-3.
Reds could have folded by then, by credit to every Reds player, they keep fighting and was rewarded when a good team move saw Sean flicking the ball to Daniel and he scored, much to the delight of every Reds player. Reds had some chances to kill the game off but couldn't make their chances count largely due to Delon's goalkeeping heroics.
Whites kept pushing for the equaliser and were very dangerous on the counter attack. Towards the end of the game, Kelvin Lee provided a thumper which pulled the Whites level, and we decided to call an end to a very competitive and exciting match.
Fair result which neither side deserves to lose.
Final score 4-4.
Special thanks to Sean and Rai for making the game happen!
