Its been a while since we had such a tight and fiercely contested match which ended in a 1-1 scoreline that probably justified how the match unfolded.
The Reds started aggressively with fast, short inter passes and good movement off the ball with the tireless Rainer, Lynz and Sam leading the frontline. However rather against the run of play, the Whites struck early for the leading goal when disarray in the heart of the Reds defence allowed a long range shot from Perminder to creep throughout a sea of legs and unceremoniously fooled the GK and spun into the back of the net. To add more salt to wound, the shape of the Reds team was abruptly disrupted when Rockstar tweaked his knee without any contact and the team had to reshuffle its personnel. It took a while but the Reds begun to settle in and tirelessly probed the Whites defence.
However, with Desmond as CB marshalling the irrepressible back line of Nick, Chen Hong and Timmy, goals were hard to come by for the Reds as every one-one situation and fast break attacks were effectively contained (albeit the Reds were rather wasteful with their finishing as well). As the Reds began to tire, the Whites always threatened to extend their lead through lightning breaks organised by Fred playing in an unfamiliar roles as Centre Mid and Babs and Timmy and Christian rampaging down the flanks. Arjit deserves special mention for his great defensive performance yesterday as he didn't put a foot wrong and was able to remain composed and elegant playing the ball from defence out of danger more numerous occasions.
Just when it seemed like one of those days despite throwing the kitchen sink and all, the Reds were about to go home empty handed, a well worked corner from the right resulted with the Rockstar receiving a square pass on the edge of the box... he didn't fail to live up to the expectations of his roaring fans as he released a pile driver which crashed into the top corner of the goal for the much vaunted equaliser!!! it was the last kick of the game as well and a great way to end what was a highly competitive but thoroughly enjoyable encounter!
