The Whites put the ball into the net 9 times but the scoreline was only 8-1 in favour of them. In addition $10 to Christian for winning his wager with Babs.
To be perfectly objective, it was a comfortable and emphatic victory for the Whites. In mitigation for the Reds, they had a number of players who were coming back from long term injuries and also non-Saturday regulars who were perhaps struggling with the pace and intensity of the game. From the on start of the match, the Reds were on the back foot and several goalkeeping and defensive blunders saw the the WHites take an early 3-0 lead. The deficit was momentarily reduced when Sam sliced a ball into the top corner of his own goal as he was trying to intercept a cut back from Babs on the right flank. However the White's dominance and more fluid passing and movement soon resulted in the restoration of a three goal cushion. The unholy trinity of Fred, Sam and Cedric tormented and tore apart the Red defenders and scored at almost at will. Even Lynz who was playing at centre back grabbed a brilliant goal as he deftly dispatched a well worked corner inside the far post with the GK helpless. In the end, the fighting spirit had dissipated from the Reds and shoulders dropped as the Whites ran riot to win the game by a 7 goal margin.
Hope everyone had a good workout in a game which was played in good spirit and sportsmanship! Until next weekend... take care everyone!
$2 credit to CH for a first report. $1 credit to each of CH and Chen Hong as team captains.
Chen Hong messaged me after the game to say his team had too many individualistic players who didn't take their turn in goal. He spent about 20 minutes in goal despite having concerns about his previous hand injury, while Babs also spent some time in goal with a hand injury. Of the other players, only Tim and Timmy spent any time in goal. He didn't think the teams were uneven, just that his team had too many individualistic players who didn't drop back or take their turn in goal.
I said that as team captain, he could ask players to go in goal or to drop back. He indicated it wasn't easy during the game. I reminded him that if a player doesn't co-operate with the team captain/selector, the captain/selector should inform me and I will remind the player concerned.
CH not $10 for Christian as I backed his bet that the Whites would win as I felt they looked stronger with more regulars on the same team hence more cohesion! Therefore someone owes me $10 too!!
Whites were a class above as I expected & deserved there comfortable victory!
We do miss our CB's, hope they come back soon. Apologies I couldn't stay in goal longer, my wrist is badly injured & I was in a lot of pain falling on it when making a save from Fred. Chen Hong was right to mention about GK duties needing to be shared but as the captain he should have driven that point home as sometimes players won't offer to go in goal as they are new or just due to not being asked by the captain.
The game was played in good spirits and no bitching inc when there was a pen rightfully claimed by the whites. Well done to all.
Blatant piece of player 'tapping up' there by Damien, surely there's a GIFFA rule about this sort of conduct Rajiv? Giffa decree no 1009 stating no player from a rival day should 'tap' up other players needs to be enforced Jiv.
anyway Babs you are always full of excuses. Fistly you couldnt score when you were up there playing striker & now you put on a fake bandage just to skip keeper duties. i still remember that penalty you took a few weeks ago shooting straight at the goalie - what were you thinking ? At least Brendan put on a more creditable ankle brace that entitled him to free beers.
