I am not sure I recall the scoreline correctly but technically, Whites won the match via the "last goal wins" agreement we had when the scoreline was 8-3 to Reds during the last 5 mins of the game So we will honor the agreement and grant Whites the win.
Despite the scoreline, it was a rather even game with Reds having the advantage with more strikers in Elvin, Karthi and Jeetu. We started in a rather novel formation putting Shaiful in center-mid instead of his usual last man position and it worked intially with him linking up with and providing the passes to Elvin up front. However, it was Whites who drew first blood with Charpin (who did a good job playing up front for Whites).
The floodgates opened when Reds made a strategic change pushing Zach (who started off as leftback - don't ask me why but we had too many front players) and pushing Jeetu to a central position swapping Karthi to the right wing. Suddenly, with the added man running in from left, Zach scored almost mirror goals with Elvin drawing all the defenders onto him and then slipping a neat pass to Zach who was always lurking or running into the left side of the goal. I think Zach scored 4 of the goals yesterday with Elvin, Chen Hong (after a nice long pass from Jeetu in goal) and Jeetu.
Whites defended well with Andrew and Danny holding the fort and making quite a few saves especially off Elvin's probing shots to the corners of the goal and Charpin was a constant threat with his running and willing to take the hits. Towards the end of the game, Whites displayed something of Man Utd's resurgence and instead of hanging their heads down, stepped up their play...this led to their scoring the last goal of the game through Senthil? or was it Charpin? which gave them the title.
Hot and hazy afternoon. Also quite a lot of shouting during the match....think we should all tone down abit and focus more on playing to avoid tensions from spilling over
