I'm not asking around anymore, but I can't rule out players coming in in the afternoon. If we get one more, I'll try to get a second, but otherwise, we'll go ahead 7-a-side. If we get 2 more after line ups are decided, we can either have one on each team, or adjust the line ups as necessary.
Line ups to follow.
I'm heading out, so anyone who wants to play, message me on my personal mobile number, not on my GIFFA admin number.
While I was out, I got 3 replies, and there were 3 posts on this thread, from a total of 4 players. Since I did ask for players to message me (above), I will treat messages to me as equivalent to posts on this thread, go by the order in which the player first responded. .....
Damian had posted the line ups on the WhatsApp group chat at 12.54 pm.
I posted as follows on the WhatsApp group chat between 3.14 and 3.16 pm:
Elvin can't get Damian, so he's discussed the line ups with me. I can't get Damian either
Anyway, we've provisionally revised the line ups as follows:
Whites- Damian, Gerard, Sivaraj, Kien, Zac, Calvin, Charpin, Tim T Reds - Elvin, Perminder, Shaiful, Danny, Senthil, Andrew, Isaac, Brendan
Everyone, bring both colours in case Damian wakes up and decides he needs further changes
After the game, please post reports and comments on the game below.
Apologies for any stress caused in the lead up to the match yesterday as I thought we had it all settled at 1pm and went to take my beauty nap only to awake to find that we had 2 additional players. But thanks to Rajiv and Elvin, they allocated the players that I would have opted for anyways
And so it began.......with some misgivings on the White team that we would be steamrolled by Reds with the sheer firepower of Elvin and Brendan looming on their minds. And for the first 20 mins it appeared that our fears were valid as Reds surged 2-0 up with Whites scrambling to contain Brendan, Elvin and Perminder who linked up well. However, Whites had the fighting spirit and somehow we managed to get settled by moving Charpin from right wing to central mid, where he did an amazing job in midfield cutting off and harrying all and sundry in the vicinity. He provided the linkage to the front players while performing the CDM role extremely well. We also shifted Tim to left back where again, surprisingly, he was able to contribute a lot more to the attack playing neat little 1-2s with Zach and surging up ala Luke Shaw and Evra of old......this created alot of confusion for Reds defence with the extra man coming into attack. Also, Gerard shrugged off the rust of his layoff and was his old self darting left to right and often ending up in good positions without any markers! Sivaraj was in his element, jiggling and making great passes and also incidentally, scoring a hat trick along the way.
Finally, the White defence was always solid, with Kien holding the back line alongside Calvin (who stuck to Senthil, Elvin etc like glue) and Tim on the left. All in all , the Whites displayed v cohesive team spirit and though I didn't get to see much action (in terms of actual gameplay) it was a pleasure just to watch them
After the first 2 goals, Whites equalised and then scored another 5 to end the match 7-2.
Another cool afternoon which was fun weather to play in. Can't wait till next Sun!
