Reds: Jordi, Nick, Ian (c), Clarence, Shamir Whites: Philip, Sivaraj, Sven (c), Vjay, Ling Chong
As usual, Rajiv was spot-on with his proposed team selections (which Sven and I duly agreed with). In truth, there wasn't very much at all between the teams at full strength and it was a closely fought contest that was only marred by a couple of freak injuries to the Reds.
The opening 12 minutes was all tactical and close marking and no goals were conceded. While Whites eventually drew first blood to lead 1-0, their lead didn't last long and Reds were soon on level terms with the teams trading goals until Reds led 4-3 on about 35 minutes. Nick then appeared to suffer a spontaneous hamstring injury when under no real pressure(probably brought about by his tireless harrassing, tackling and chasing down every ball - to good effect) and had to hobble off the pitch. Just a few minutes earlier, I had turned on my left ankle and suffered a Grade I sprain which limited my mobility but did not prevent me from playing on at 70% efficiency.
With Reds down by a man, we employed the usual 5 vs 4 rules, during which time Reds managed to notch a couple of goals in 10 minutes. Whites then decided to drop a man (i.e. they elected to play rolling subs) and we reverted to normal rules as the match resumed 4 v 4 for the remaining 15 minutes. However, Reds capitalized on the momentum they had built up and ended 5-2 winners.
It was an enjoyable match played in good spirits (which was in contrast to last week's match at The Cage which, I was given to understand, was an ill-tempered and tempestuous affair).
