WOW I played like shit. But I tried (my Sony smartband *shameless plug* tells me I clocked 7,500 steps vs my usual 4,000) and the rest of the White team did too to the best of our abilities but alas in the end we got walloped. Team-wise, Reds clicked better, controlled the game with several "ball-playing" players, and eventually overwhelmed the Whites 9-3 (or 10-3) in the end.
It's the 2nd time in 3 weeks I played on a team with a player that came in running shoes. I know Maradona can play just as well in socks, but when I saw that I was like… oh my gawd, look at that…. (cue Nicki Minaj song).
That said, it has to be said that the team selection (by Rajiv) eventually favored the Reds. A swap out of Kah Boon with Manish made the big difference. Sometimes team captains have to make compromises in the spirit of balance, especially when Rajiv is chipping in to help (blind).
Ok, Have a Happy New Year. No injuries for anyone today so it's a good sign for 2015. See you on the flip side.
Yeah we attempted to get Manish over to the White side but were unable to agree on the swap which on hindsight would have made a lot of sense. But at the end of the day, that is the peculiarity about line-ups, its always difficult to strike the right balance and many times, given the nature of soccer, the end result may be a surprise and much weaker teams on paper suddenly end up tops.
Sadly, that wasn't the case for Whites yesterday That said, I always try to adopt the attitude of making the best with what you have and credit to the largely defensive White team, we did do that at least in the first 20 mins. I think Kien and Issac had the right fighting spirit playing the whole length of the pitch and never giving up while Joshua tried his best being the lone offensive player and center of attention for Reds defence. Perminder and Leo also were giving their all while the defense trio of Kong, Andrew and myself did all we could but for every successful tackle or interception, the Reds kept coming back in waves especially in the latter part of the game when legs began tiring.
It was intimidating to see Elvin, Manish, David M, Sivaraj, Yas, Stuart and Calvin all surging forward and passing to one another all around the perimeter of the White D. Waitaminit! That is almost the entire Red team!!! That is how attacking-minded they were!!
Still thanks to the fighting spirit of the White team I think that its not the result but the way we went down that matters Not that this takes anything away from Reds victory, they all played well yesterday with Calvin scoring 2 goals (one a cheeky backheel!!), Stuart debuting with a rocket of a shot and Elvin and Manish obliging as usual....forgot the other scorers....after the 5 or 6 goals, it all becomes a blur :0
Score was 9-4 at full time...after we played an extended 5 mins last ball in the hope of a the last goal wins rule hehehehe
Happy New Year everyone!! Here is to an even more AWESOME soccer year in 2015!!
It was great meeting old friends after some time. Game was tough and robust as usual. And it was close affair until tye last 20mins or so where reds poured forward and capitalize. Great game and great spirits. Some things never change like even without the ball, there will be hands all over me ??. Guess im a guy magnet ?. Great game and Happy Birthday Damian. Wishing you many happy years ahead and more kids?
