Several newer or less regular players, so I will suggest line ups after noon tomorrow. I have added a team captain poll. I have included Grandstand regulars (minimum 12 games in the current 6 month period of 40 games over the past 3 years) other than those who specifically opted out as team captain (as opposed to team selector).
Whites got steam-rolled yesterday. This time the misgivings before the start of the match were justified as Red team even without Manish (who was 10 mins late due to a road accident that caused a jam) were causing a lot of scrambling from White team. With Jake and Cathal making those diagonal raking runs and Dom, Ting Han and Paul on occasion running in, Whites were scrambling from start to end.
Stan was a rock in defence and made umpteen clearances and interceptions and even that was not enough and Whites went down ignominiously to a 7-2 or was it 8-2 drubbing? Thanks to Jon's hard work, we managed to pull back 2 goals but the gulf on the pitch was evident with Reds midfield and passing game causing Whites too much trouble. Credit to Jon, Perminder and Nealraj and the rest of the team did put in their all but it was just not enough. Andrew and Issac were both injured at one stage after giving 110%. This caused a swap of players (Dom to Whites and Issac to Reds to play goalie). However, even with Dom who did give us more options up front and even'd the game somewhat...we were still reeling from the onslaught and unable to compose ourselves.
At the end of the day, Whites did not have enough mids who could hold the ball and create chances, while we did get a lot of tackles in and interceptions, we just lacked the flowing play in front to cause the Red goalie much worries. Even Elvin could not penetrate on his own as there was Kien ever ready to block his shots on the turn or Manish and Danny or Paul harrying him whichever way he turned, at the end he could only move horizontally on the pitch....
Oh well, I still haven't had a win this year....looking forward to the first win this year! Hopefully next week!!
