Lots of pre-match chatter about the line-ups both on Whatsapp and to Perminder - basically Whites were of the view that Reds were stronger and teams were not balanced in terms of striking ability....notwithstanding this, Perminder and myself stuck to the original line-ups and on hindsight, it was a good game!
I had earlier reasoned with Perminder that each side had a fair share of defenders (4 each) and mids (2 each) and strikers (2 each) so balance was there....anyways after the first 15 mins, White were leading 2-1!!
It was a fast paced and furious match with both teams neck-to-neck and at the 3 quarter mark of the game, Whites were breathing down Red's slender lead at 7-6!! On the Red team, fortunately we had my MOTM SHAIFUL who scored a hattrick and displayed amazing coolness in his slow dribble up front, once getting passed 3 players before scoring!! Interesting formation that we deployed as we made use of the defensive capabilities of Kong and Shaiful later in a center-mid role to disrupt any passing game of the Whites. While that worked like a charm defensively, it also created opportunities for effervescent Cathal our lone striker who ran his heart out in front nad Joshua and Charpin. Andrew scored a really nice goal too.
Whites played very well yesterday with Perminder growing v confident on the ball, scoring, shielding the ball well and creating chances. Whilst Kien kept the backline solid together with ever reliable Danny and Foo Cheong. Paul made some devastating runs into harass the Red def while Darren, Nealraj and Jake had the better time in mid-field with their deft passing and running off the ball.
At 7-6, Whites were trying hard to equalise and both parties agreed to playing a last ball at 6.10pm.....shortly after Reds scored the final goal making it 8-6. It was by no means a one-way game and hard fought all the way to the end.
Didn't realise how impt a thumb is and had difficulty even brushing teeth, unbuttoning etc etc with this darn sprained thumb...looks like i am out of goalie positions for a couple of weeks....
