Team selectors are Keith and Niel. Line ups to follow.
Tim C messaged me his concerns about the original line ups. As there was a late withdrawal and replacement, and Niel appeared to be busy at work, I added Tim to the line ups group chat to discuss revising the line ups. Keith and Niel agreed with Tim's suggestion.
Keith posted the line ups on the WhatsApp group chat at 7.12 pm as follows:
The whites starting strongly and were dominating the middle of the field and raced to a 2-0 lead before the Reds got back a goal.
Andy scored with a right volley off a rebound to pull the whites to 3-1 before seb demanded to play in the center. Then the whites crumbled to 5-3 before Andy turns the white center defender to score to bring it to 5-4.
The game eventually ended 7-4.
I have never been pissed or even posted on this forum but I am damn pissed that a player who can't even play his part for the team demanded to play center when the team is winning. And in the end, the center crumbled and the lead reversed.
The above saga was probably down to miscommunication between players. Perhaps, in future, if a similar situation were to arise, the team selector or captain should step in to dictate the team strategy / player positions.
On a lighter and brighter note, kudos to Ben Y, for a second week running, has scored 1 and assisted 2. Notable mention was his first goal today, hassled well to win the ball before smashing it into the roof of the net.
Jacko did well for the reds with 4 goals, the others came from Ben (1), Marcus (1) and Sean (1).
Paul and Andy were scorers for the whites, 2 goals each.
Tim mentioned after the game that securing George was important as he brought industry to the whites. George, that's high praise, think you should get Tim a drink for the next session.
Next time captain need to give a clear and precise position for each player and says if we are in offensive or defensive strategy. At the end of this game it appears that whites heard to different types of position. Next time be more serious and the game will be better.
Just to add, no need to be so hard with Seb when he was the one who run for the other.
$2 credit to Andy Ng for a first report. $2 credit to each of Keith and Niel as team selectors.
It's not easy being team selector/captain. I provide Guidelines, but experience counts for a lot. And players need to vote for two selectors/captains on the basis that they might be on the team of either of the two. Those who play regularly should know who are best able to carry out the function of selector/captain. As I have pointed out before, it is counter-productive to vote for one team selector whose side you want to be on and who will have you on his side, and the other team selector a the player most likely to accept what the former proposes. I call this "tactical" voting. To be fair, I don't think it was a big issue for yesterday's game, but it is useful to remember that players should vote responsibly. And all GIFFA Players down for the game before the poll closes should vote. And in the game, the players on each team need to co-operate with the team selector/captain.
To be fair to Andy, he only came in as a late replacement after the poll had closed. To be fair to Niel, I think he would rather not have been team selector/captain. There is always the option of opting out before the poll is put up. I also note Paul's comments about Seb.
We learn a lot from out games, and players need to involve themselves in the process to get the most out of our games.
Good team spirit Andy... I would apreciate more honesty and communication from your part next time to avoid this kind of unnecessary post-discussion. Here is my view : Before the beginning of the game I accepted your willingness to play as center even i wanted it : that's the game i didnùt care actually. After a certain time i asked you to explain me how do you want to play in the middle because it seemed you were complaining about my position in defence and indeed i felt lost : just normal discussion between teamates. But you insisted to change position to see if i could do better job than you as center and refused to talk to me despite i invited to stay center : that's wasn't my concern... So i agree with you i didn't play well but please when you pissed off say it during the game; don't make me the only responsible of this loss once the game ended.
I somewhat agree to some points brought out. We shouldn't bring such matter outside the game. Whatever happens in the game , should stay in the game.
You either win or you lose but we move on and learn from each game we played.
And yes, communication throughout the game is very important, especially between teammates. Like it or not, we must learn to agree to disagree. Otherwise, you will not enjoy playing the short one hour.
In such a team setup of seven, everyone must try to adapt to whichever position he is tasked to play. Of course, you may have your preferred playing position but it boils down to what is best for the team.
Capt. Keith loves putting me up down left right center all over the pitch, no complaints. Trust the captain. Lol!
seb, honesty? That was as honest as it was. Every single time the ball goes out of play, you come to me and ask to play center.
It is in the game and u want to have a forum? Rajiv have already made it clear. You play the position the captain have assigned. You want a change, you ask him and not keep coming to the player asking this and that.
Since you so adamant as you mentioned you want to play in the center, I let you have it. Then you want to change again. Clearly you did not read the regulations clearly, approach the captain. As jacko mentioned, we understood that we highlight to the captain before the game but after the game starts, just stick to the role till the captain changes.
Anyway, it is just a game long over and I let it rest. Will not bother to reply anymore. And if it makes you feel better, yes. I was in the wrong and I was the one that started it all.
You each have your point of view. What is more important is communication, whether on the pitch or on the forum. It's good that you can both put forward your point of view. It helps clear the air and address issues, which makes for better games in the future.
I appreciate there is a bit of irritation (and a bit of sarcasm) on both sides, but it is good that the discussion has been largely sensible, without being unnecessarily insulting or abusive. We can leave it at that for now.
