Rockstar was only in for 8-a-side, so unless we get one more, he's out. Some desperate calls to see if Andy is still available, but to no avail.
Switching Dylan back, we have:
Whites: Wing Kong, Calvin, Elvin (c), Dev, Vini, Mark 8, Shaiful Reds: Nazriee, Dylan, Damian (c), Kien, Wilson, Jessen, Stan D Man
A bit frustrating to end up with 7-a-side after all that effort to get to 8-a-side, and even having an extra player less than 3 hours before the game, but at least we had enough for a game on the big pitch.
After the game, please post reports and comments on the game below.
Losing Paul and Rockstar was bad for Reds...we ended up breaking my personal "record" and losing by the biggest scoreline ever 12-3. I think the cause of this was due to a combination of the Red team not being used to each other, 7-a-side and not having a target more attack minded players on Red side.
Initially, after White had swooped to a 2 goal lead in the first 15 mins, Reds did have a rallying moment...but a moment it was. We had Kien in the center-mid with Wilson as striker and Jessen on the wings. Stan in central D with myself, Dylan on the left and Naz in goal. After it became evident that we were being overwhelmed in all parts of the pitch, we moved Naz to striker where he obliged with a goal.
However, Whites were just pounding the Red goal and we were just too disjointed to put up any real resistance. Vini had a good run in his familiar role as striker and his physical presence scoring a handful and drawing Stan away from the other players. Elvin duly obliged with 5 or 6 strikes! Shaiful with 1 of his own and Kong (forgot who else was on the scoresheet). 7-a-side is quite different from our normal game and the team has to move up and down as a unit, unfortunately, we failed to do that with each player trying their hardest but not able to coordinate the efforts. Even when Calvin went into goal with a knock and bad bruising to his shin, we still couldn't do much despite having a numerical advantage.
Kudos to keeping the team spirit and carrying on fighting with Kien adopting a never say die attitude and Wilson for giving 110% till the end. Jessen also for playing on with a groin injury picked up in the first 5 mins of the game.
Special thanks to Jiv for his efforts in finding us 8 players for the game. Not bad considering we were not even at 10 on Fri
The final score was 12-3, I think Elvin and Vini score 5 each and Wing Kong and me score one. As for the red Nazriee score 1 and Captain Marvel, Damian score 2.
The game strategy was simple as directed by Elvin that Wing Kong and me should swap position as and when we need to. I started playing midfield and Wing Kong as a sweeper. Knowing that you are playing with the best striker(in my opinion)Elvin, make thing easy for me. He knows when to hold, pass and shoot. It doesn't take long when we have the first goal. With his good vision Elvin, he square the ball to me in D-box and all I've to do is to tap the ball to the empty net. We were leading by 3 goals when Nazriee score from acute angle and Damian score twice which I believe the score was already beyond the red reach. Not once or twice that Elvin shooting landed at the back of the net but he did it 4 or 5 times, just amazing. I guess that is his trademark. Where we you bro when Singapore need a good striker? Vini was doing the same thing scoring 4 or 5 but mostly his goals is more of a team work. The last goal was score by Wing Kong, with his never give up attitude he link up well with Vini and score. Mark, Calvin and Dev played well too and all we need is just communication and team work. I miss a few changes in front of goals but I guess after a month break I really enjoy the game. But I guess playing 7-a-side is not too bad after all as we have more space to create changes and play to our strength.
Elvin, too late already lah...every time I am marking you near goal, all my team mates are shouting at me to cover your drop shoulder to right and shoot move!! Think maybe you should learn a new trick to shoot with your left leg instead From personal experience, the best way to contain Elvin is to double-team or even triple-team him, like last week....with 3 bodies (preferably big guys) all crowding around him leaving him no space whatsoever heheheh now your secret is out!! But its an interesting combination to play Shaiful / Kong in midfield positions...fun to tinker with
Elvin, in my humble opinion, is by far the best attacking player on Giffa that I've played against. Any defence and/or defender who's expecting a stroll through the park on a Sunday will be punished. As we were.

glad you guys had a good game but sympathies to Damian for losing 2 games on a trot buddy.
yes Elvin must have been devastating in a combination with Vini - that spells trouble every time.
I guess the best way to shut Elvin out is to double team him like that previous week's game when he couldnt do alot of damage.
Damian I bet you had your hands full when you had both Elvin and Vini running at you from all ends.
Elvin why dont you play the Sat games as well it would be interesting to have you pit your silky moves against the guys on Sat - although you are already playing Weds privately it is just that I dont have the pleasure of witnessing your moves on weds...
