It was a cool afternoon for Sunday football at Turf city. All the players turned up punctually and whites had the advantage of size as they had a good number of larger and taller players. This proved useful to the Whites as they opened the scoring after a good 10+ minutes of deadlock with Christian (or was it Raphael) who towered over Paul and headed in the first goal of the afternoon.
Unfazed by the first goal, reds kept their shape and organization with defensive marshaling by Kien and lots of off ball running by Gerard + Rainer soon saw the equalizer scored 5 minutes after the opener to level the sides at one a piece.
Both teams held a very tight defence and there was a very tough battle in midfield as neither whites nor reds were able to take majority control and possession of the game. At the same time, there were opportunities at both ends which both teams squandered and as such, the score was held at 1-1 for a good 40 minutes of the game.
Whites continued to press up front and after a blocked chance, Paul and Reiner managed to launch a counter-attack to take reds into the lead. From there on, it was reds who took the game as they continued to score 2 more goals in quick succession, one of which was a brilliantly flicked header by Rainer which placed the ball out of the white's goalie's reach.
The game ended 4-1 (or was it 5-1) to reds but the score does not reflect the quality of game played as i must say it was a very balanced lineup picked by both captains. Good spirits all around and tough luck to the whites who did have a few solid shots at goal that were saved valiantly by Augustine.
