Was this gonna be another week of disappointment for the reds? Rumour has had it that it Reds were have an internal rift and players were doing a lot of finger pointing and critical assessments were being made about individual performances and commitment.
REDs capt Derian and WHITEs capt Sean had their gloves off during the team selection stage. Sean thought that Derian's initial suggestion hugely favored reds, with the latter disagreeing and in his argument, thought that it was a very finely balanced lineup. Ultimately, after a few rounds of tweaking, calls and messaged, both captains finally agreed on the final lineup.
Players started flocking into the stadium, Paul from the mighty whites being the first to comment, 'how to play??'. Many obviously thought that he was being delusional.
when the big match finally got underway, reds took control of possession taking advantage of the fact that whites were one man short. Andy arrived a little late as his daughter had to be sent to the clinic for a checkup due to her vomiting. We assumed everything was fine on his end since he still managed to make it down for the game albeit 5 min into the start. And so whites took the initiative with two lightning wick strikes from jessen, dubbed as the '20 min man'. David the 'hope' was having a luxury of time and space along the right flank and was proving to be a nuisance for whites. Sean as always was controlling the whites midfield and tried to dictate the play, but with the pressing from deep lying midfielder, Derian pirlo, found trouble this time round with the help of his sidekick jacko. Ray tried to make his trademark diagonal runs but most of the attacks were stemmed out from the excellent midfield trio of Jessen, Derian and David. And when some balls managed to get past the middle, gerard and kien was there to pick up the pieces and distributed the ball out for quick counter.
Surprisingly though, whites were having an of day. The on form delon was having trouble getting any spare change from the twin center backs and keith was not his usual self with a few lapses in defence letting Nicholas and jessen through. The absence of Gow was felt as Jessen dominated the left flank. Paul often was caught leaving huge gaps on that flank and jessen exploited them.
The pattern of the game carried on till the score was 8-2 and reds seemed to take their foot off the pedal and let whites back in. It's always amazing how goals spark hope and whites seemed to regain the belief that they might be able to get something back from the game. Sean was heard telling the players 'come on, 5 more goals' when the scoreline was 8-3. Whites pressed higher up the pitch and pressured Chern yang and kien into silly errors. Gerard was also starting to tire and complained of a back injury. The gap was reduced to 8-5 and towards the end, an injury to Sean brought the game to a halt after a 50-50 challenge from Derian. Thankfully sean was fine after spending a few minutes writhing in painon the ground.
Final score was 8-5. Jessen voted captain pirlo man of the match.
