Insufficient votes for team selectors, but CH and Jessen have 2 votes each. They are sufficiently experienced as team selectors, and most of the players are Grandstand regulars, so they can be team selectors.
Line ups to follow.
As posted by Jessen on the WhatsApp group chat at 2.55 pm:
Reds: Ch, Lynz, Fred, Rockstar, Timmy, Arijit, Jordi, Dev
Lots of banter on the whatsapp chat as both Reds and Whites were commenting that the other looks the stronger on paper before the game proper. CH and I managed to work the lineup pretty seamlessly and from my view point, both teams were very well balanced.
The afternoon was really warm and all players arrived punctually to kick the game off at 5pm. Wilson mentioned before the kickoff that he wanted to see the Legendary Lynz score from a bicycle kick and Rockstar apparently brought his away strip that afternoon and had to get a red bib to identify himself with his team. The game kicked off with lots of tussling in the midfield as both teams kept it tight in the middle of the park. Reds Lynz, Fred and Jordi matched up against Whites Darren, Wilson and Daniel and these 6 kept the midfield compact throughout the game.
10 minutes in and an inspired run from Jordi latched onto a Lynz pass to give Reds first blood.... within seconds, Jordi had a brilliant opportunity to double that lead but shot painfully wide. Whites woke up to the eminent danger. After a reds attack failed, Daniel surged down the left flank and equalized from a break to balance things off at 1 a piece. Whites then took the lead after some well worked passing between the 3D danger men of Derian, Daniel and Darren led to a left foot shot by me from outside the box. That followed by some more neat passing which found Babs open in the opponents box to pound a really powerful close range shot equivalent of a knock out blow to take the score to 3-1.
Despite down by 2 goals, reds did not give up the fight. They started turning the game up a notch and 2 quick goals in succession soon saw the game level again. The second of those goals coming from a killer cross from Jordi on the right which found CH's run in for a glorious header which whites had no chance of defending. Both teams were defending hard and attacking with much intent up till a stage when the score was 5-4 to the whites. From then on, it was all reds as they stepped on the gas and fired 2 cracking goals from midfield (1 by Rockstar and the other I think by Dev) to take the lead 6-5. Last goal was called and a half punched clearance from white's keeper Calvin saw the ball fall nicely for Lynz who took it brilliantly with a bicycle kick to end the game and fulfill Wilson's wish.
Final score 7-5 to reds.
A good game overall. No man of the match for me as both sides played their hearts out in good spirits.
I think lynz was man of the match. When he moved upfront, we managed to retain the ball a bit more and he graciously held for a few seconds and passed the ball to the 2nd line enabling to build up the offensive transition. He fought like luis suarez against 1-2-3 defenders moving cleverly. We managed to do some nice tiki-taka and he scored a fantastic bicycle kick to close the game. 2nd man of the match to fred when he moved center midfield and he showed big character so we started playing more aggressive and was a turning point for reds
