Several new, newer or less regular players, or players who haven't played with us at Khalsa before, and quite late for a poll, so I will suggest line ups and team captains after 4 pm. I'm out the rest of the afternoon, so may be after 5 pm.
The player on each team with the most number of games in the current 6 month period, and has not opted out, can be captain. For Team 1, that would be Kong Fei, with 19 games. For Team 2, that would be George, also with 19 games. Team captains can agree on colours.
After the game, Andrew messaged me to say that he suffered a bad tackle after he got past Kevin O, and he suspected a fracture in the ankle. He said Kevin didn't apologise. When I asked Kevin about this, he said he apologised but Andrew swore at him, and he felt Andrew was over-reacting. I pointed out to Kevin that sometimes, players do suffer serious injury from even innocuous tackles. It is a risk, and others shouldn't assume the injury isn't bad when the player concerned says it is.
The fracture was confirmed by an X-Ray the following Monday. There is a broken fragment in the ankle bone, which requires surgery. Andrew had continued his exchange with Kevin on WhatsApp, and showed me a screenshot of the exchange. I pointed out that others might get defensive if they are sworn at or blamed. But a player injured may well swear.
From asking around, I understand it was a mis-timed tackle. Players do need to exercise more care, and realise that injuries can be more serious than expected.
I hope Andrew recovers well.
New players do need to be socialised into our games. We've had incidents like this before, where a new player has caused injury to another due to naivety or over-enthusiasm. Some of these new players have gone on to be regulars.
